You are mistaken, 64-bit apps require 20-30% more memory than 32-bit apps:You sir, have no idea how 64-bit addressing works, stop spreading misconceptions. The amount of memory, available and effective, is the same as it was under 32-bit. Also more RAM isn't the solution to everything. More RAM will not solve memory leaks. More RAM will use up your battery faster.

This is why you effectively have less memory in the iPad Air than the iPad 3/4.
You still have 1GB of RAM, but now that Apple has moved to 64-bit, applications require 20-30% more memory.
So you effectively have less RAM in the new iPads than the previous generation, which is why so many people are experiencing problems with apps reloading content or crashing now.
Devices should have had 2GB RAM with the move to 64-bit. I was already running into memory limits on my iPad 3, and it's worse on the Air/Retina Mini now.
