iPad 3 Refurb...

I was initially going to go that route but I think I may go for a 4 instead. I rationalize it because I want the 12W charger anyways, which would add $19 to the refurb price as it is.. at that point it becomes a $100 difference and I think the 4 will hold resale value better. But I might be convinced otherwise.. we'll see when the 4 is out and how reviews are.
I'm about to order a refurb 3 myself. Wish it would come with 5.1.1 on it so I can JB it but I doubt it. I too think it's a great deal .
Indeed it is, what size are you gonna get? I got a 16GB, I don't think the stock will last for to much longer.
Shop discover is 5% for apple and 5% for online purchase. Friday has additional 2% and you might be able to secure a $45 coupon on top of all that goodness. 12w charger makes no difference if the charging circuit will only pull 10 watts. If the ipad 3 will actually take advantage of full 12w than $19 for the adapter makes no difference to me for the additional gain and benefits of the new charger.

It might. Lots of times I have ordered refurbished iPod Touch during the iOS 4 days and they ALWAYS came with 3.1.3!

Here is my rush to iPad since last week.
Knowing iPad mini is coming out, I decided to get a cheap iPad 2 based on the expecting price drop. And low be hold, I found a brand new iPad 2 WiFi+3G for just $325 on local Craig's List. (Someone won a contest, and unloading for cash.) While I was looking for $275 range, the brand new factor made me pull the trigger. I thought it was a good deal, but I never expected Apple would upgrade iPad 3 at the same iPad mini event: making the iPad 2 the poorest among the three in the product line!
So I quickly sold the brand new iPad 2 (still shrink wrapped), and started looking for iPad 3. So many people are trying to sell their iPad 3 since Tuesday! It is really unreasonable!
Anyway, I finally snatched a used iPad 3, but really like new with full body protective shield, 16GB WiFi+4G, complete box for $415. I think it is a better deal, since the new one on Apple Store is still costing $509 plus tax.
I like bigger screen, so I stick to iPad 2 or iPad 3.
I like to have a real GPS in the 4G model. If you don't care, then the $379 WiFi one on Apple Store may be a good deal.

Can anyone confirm one way or another whether these refurbs can be jailbroken or not?
My main reason for always buying the previous gen/model is so that I can jailbreak it as soon as I get it home.
If these 3rd gens can't be then I have zero interest in picking one up.

My unit has a build date of june and is a refurb. A member on slickdeals received his and it is 5.1.1. If you order white I think they are newer build date and sept is when ios 6 was released. I would order ASAP since they are shipping older units to newer units I would imagine. Eventually these will all be coming with IOS 6. I sold the ipad 2 for $320 which was jailbroken to replace it with a jailbroken ipad 3 for break even with a free smart cover.

I'm willing to bet that most refurbs are practically new if not brand new just to sell them...
refurbme.com probably has them brand new after looking at there inventory..
There's a good chance the refurbs will have 5.1.1 installed. All of the people who have received the iPad 3 refurb have reported 5.1.1 installed . They are also shipping directly from China. I will confirm when I receive mine on Wednesday.
Just picked up my refurb 3 from the Tampa store. Ordered on the 23rd, said it would be ready on the 30th, and got an email Friday morning (the 26th) that it was ready.
It's a black 64gb and I can confirm it still has 5.1.1.
My problem is I want to restore it (my "other" folder is huge from dropping in avi files...want to clean it up) but it wants me to restore AND update. Need to figure out how to just restore.

I don't think you can restore and update with iTunes.
Why the need on a new device to restore?
