Thanks for the commercial there bud,

But all that stuff is available on Android too.

I'm talking about "What (Other than a crisp screen) makes this special ?"

Really? I hadn't noticed. I thought apps on Android tablets were pretty lacking. Honeycomb was supposed to usher in the new era of Android tablet apps... and that promise was made a year ago.

But anyway... the iPad 3 will have everything the first 2 iPads had (which I outlined earlier)... plus a better screen.

I get what you're saying... you think the sharper screen in the iPad isn't enough of an upgrade.

But you forget that the iPad 3 will be an iPad... and that's the biggest feature of all ;)

First of all , I didn't want to get into an Android Vs iPad argument.
I only stated that I was curious what else this thing will have.
I agree, iPad 3 will most likely be awesome.

and thank you for not biting my head off like some others......

I'll repeat:

- A vibrant app ecosystem
- Silky smooth operation
- Accessories
- Cases

A smart person will understand.

So what ....Are you calling me stupid?
Android has A vibrant app ecosystem

It has smooth operation.

It has Cases and Accessories.

Go ahead smart guy.

Enlighten me.

I can enjoy a difference of opinion ...but you aren't saying anything.

As an Android user myself I have to agree. iOS has the far greater selection of Tablet apps. And yes, compared to Android iOS is smoother. The gap got a bit closer with ICS, though. However, ICS is running on only 1% of Android devices or so. And yet, another Android Version (5) is rumored for this year. Talk about fragmentation.

Well... we don't know what the iPad 3 will have. This is MacRumors after all.

And you did bring up Android ;)

that Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 looks pretty freakin' sweet.

I have Asus Transformer, which was arguably the best android tablet until Prime came out. While I like it it's missing little bit here and little there. It's smooth, but stop being responsive for a sec with no good reason every now and then. Android market is quite large, but vast majority of apps are phone apps blown up, which looks kinda crappy. Even Kindle app is a generation behind.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

The tapered edge appears to serve another purpose. It places the rear camera lens off of the flat back of the tablet. Unlike phones, which are often kept in pockets, tablets get laid down on their backs. Placing the camera on the taper keeps it from rubbing up against tables and surfaces and getting scratched or broken.

I must say though, I'm with everybody who said the focus should be on the front camera. Boosting the back camera only serves to keep pace in the spec war with other tablets. Its really the front camera that matters most. Especially with the retina display.

"Android has A vibrant app ecosystem"

I agree. This it does have

"It has smooth operation.

The fit & finish of the OS and smoothness of the UI doesn't compare to iOS. The UI of Android is not as responsive and it tends to stutter & lag. Even Windows Phone 7.5 has a much more smooth UI compared to Android.

"It has Cases and Accessories."

Compared to the cases and accessories ecosystem of iOS / iDevices, it pales in comparison.

Not too sure what why you need an 8MP camera on the back of a tablet for? When I had an iPad 2, my primary uses for a camera were for FaceTime. I'd imagine most others were in the same boat. So how about we up the front camera and downplay the rear one some?

Me too. I use the iPad for FaceTime a couple times a week. The rear camera? I used it once in the last year just to see if it worked. I would rather they put more work into the front facing camera.

I agree. The front camera is more important to me than the back cameras, yet everyone is so focused on the back camera (which might be appealing to some people, but I don't have a use for it). FaceTime HD on the front to match my MBP please.

No stereo speakers ?

Lame

As for you, I quoted you because I found your signature amusing. I approve of it lol

You want to keep both the front and camera back of a decent resolution. Seeing as the iPad 3 will have a very high-resolution screen, any picture or video you take with the iPad 3 will need to look sharp on the "Retina" screen.

You want a high-resolution front camera if for no other reason a low-resolution one would make both people communicating look like ****.

Don't see how they can do a quad-core, retina display, bigger battery and an 8MP camera and still keep the price points the same. I'll believe it when I see it.

Don't forget that Apple has enormous leverage.

Apple will ship at least 50 million iPad3's this year. Just think how much of a discount they get when they order that many parts.

The 8MP camera sensor probably doesn't cost much. It's already in the iPhone, so prices have certainly gone down.

The battery won't be that much larger, so no large cost increase there.

It's really only about the quad core processor and retina display. Those probably will be quite expensive, but just think about the volume.

Don't forget that all other components are getting cheaper, most notably the flash memory modules.

Overall, taking Apple's gigantic profit margin (even on the current iPad) into account, I see no reason why they should/will raise prices.

Most known case manufacturers have cases for popular Android phones. But yes, selection is slightly limited but they exist.

As for 8 MP lenses, it shouldn't be that expensive. Some of the first phones (that I know of, correct me if I'm wrong) with 8 MP lenses are from 2008-2009.

Back in 2005 I used to see a bunch of tiny laptops (before "Netbooks") and they had a reversible camera on a hinge.
I used to think it was a brilliant idea. Then they dissappeared

You must live quite a boring life, to be an Apple hater sitting on an Apple forum just to leave cynical comments downplaying a new Apple product.

Man, if only the executives at Apple were as productive and creative as you. Maybe then they could actually contribute to the world as much as you do. We could all learn from your pessimism and cynicism.

I beg to differ.

Apple is working very hard on native support for 5.1 Dolby Digital in Mountain Lion so I'm going to guess the iPad3 will be able to output 5.1 audio.

Is this speculation or you know this as fact?

I'd like to see an official Apple stylus.

Something I can sketch with on a small scale.

According to the Patently Apple site there were couple of patents filed by Apple pointing to a stylus device;

http://www.patentlyapple.com/patent...ge-steps-towards-a-graphics-pen-for-ipad.html

http://www.patentlyapple.com/patent...-docking-system-work-with-ordinary-paper.html

Now mind you, filing patents doesn't guarantee the product will come to fruition but at least you know they thought about it or may be working on it.

I wasnt "downplaying" anything.

Look....buddy.... I can tell that your reading comprehension is stunted and you are angry with my user name so I will say this nicely : I like Apple products, I use them and am very excited by new and cool technology.
Read my signature. Learn from it. There IS NO TEAM in being a fanatic.
Look at my comment history of you want.
I am not some fanboy spewing useless comments.
I have opinions and what I talk about here is a leasurely thing I do.
People like you give me cynicism.

That's some awesome news though. I know Steve Jobs would regret that "blew it" comment.
But tech must press on

Doubt the 8 mpx theory. Apple always upgrades cameras incrementally. Bet my house on it that if there is a camera upgrade which there probably is, it will be 3mp or 5mp at best. What would be the point of putting on a camera as good as the one on the iphone when very few people actually use the back camera on the iPad
