iPad iPad 3rd gen on 5.1.1 won't connect to itunes or anything else

so my iPad 3rd generation on ios 5.1.1 (don't laugh too hard) 😀 has been sitting on a shelf for a few months. I tried opening cydia yesterday and it just crashes. so i connected to my mac and tried to get to it through ifunbox but i can't. it says it cant connect and then ifunbox just crashes. itunes gets this error:iTunes could not connect to this iPad. Could not establish a secure connection to the device. so basically i have a fully functioning iPad... only i can't get any of my photos off of it and i can't sync anything or use my jailbroken tweaks besides ones already downloaded. i'd rather not update it but if i have to i will. thanks guys!

Did you try using a version of iTunes that was current during the time period the device was current?

Yeah. I was using iTunes 11 until yesterday lol and it also won't connect to ifunbox or iphoto so I guess it's just messed up.
