I'm having this same issue - Windows 7 - 64-bit.

I have a few different folders I wanted to sync (a total of 298 pictures). The MOST I was able to get on the actual iPad was the folder with the least amount of pictures (66). I must have synced 7-10 times last night, and couldn't get more than a total of 80 pictures on the actual iPad.

This is really quite the big disappointment. One of the main reasons I went ahead and purchased the 64GB iPad was to be able to get most of my wedding and honeymoon pictures on it - now, I can't even get a tenth of that to sync properly...

Hopefully this will be fixed soon - paid a few bucks for iPhoto - but it's pretty much worthless unless I can get some pictures onto the darn thing...

Having similar problem

I'm having problems as well, but I'm wondering if they are due to similar issues? Basically, when I got my new iPad, I exported like 50 pictures from my Aperture Library into a newly created folder called "iPad" under my pictures folder. I told iTunes to sync to that folder, and all the pictures copied over just fine (and looked amazing!). However, I didn't want to start creating duplicate pictures just for the versions I want on the iPad, and I realized iTunes can sync Aperture projects, albums, etc with the iPad, so I instead created a new album within Aperture called "iPad" and told iTunes to sync with that. It won't sync with that however. Everytime I say "sync", the iPad doesn't add any photos at all. In fact, when I check the different boxes in iTunes for different projects to sync, it says "0 photos" and never syncs any of the photos. I thought initially it was because I don't store the master versions of the photos within my Aperture Library, so I tried a test by moving a few master versions back into the Aperture library and it still didn't work.

Is my problem most likely the same as the others in this thread??? Thanks!

EDIT: Ok, so I figured my problem out. Don't know if it will help others or not, but here goes. When syncing with Aperture projects, albums, or iPhoto projects and albums, iTunes is actually synching the "Preview" or "Thumbnail" image that these programs create. In my case, I have my aperture library preferences set to not create preview images ever, unless I specifically decide to later. I do this to maintain a smoother operating library and preview images can really bog down the system. Anyways, what I did was generated thumbnails for only the images in the two albums I wanted to sync, and then iTunes recognized them and transferred them to my iPad! I suppose this makes sense, since iTunes isn't smart enough to go find the master files for images that are located all over the place. I guess that's the whole point of "Previews" and this is the first time I've ever really realized/needed them.

I'm not sure if this is how I'm going to keep doing it or not, but for now it works. I think it saves file size on my system by not having to export the versions of images I want on the iPad into a new folder.

Sync Work Around

This was posted on Apple's blog by the person below and it worked for me! In fact, I created an account here so that I could share the fix. Hope it works for everyone!

Re: Photos not synchronizing on iPad (3rd gen)

Here is what fixed it for me:

Win7, 64bit, latest iTunes, new iPad 64GB 4G at&t

  • Disconnect iPad from the PC
  • Delete content of the iPod Photo Cache folder on the PC
  • Remove iPhoto from the iPad
  • Reboot PC and iPad
  • Connect iPad to the PC and sync all photos
This worked for all of my 7,000 photos, including some very large ones

iTunes 10.6.1 has been released! can someone confirm if this problem has been fixed? I dont have time right now because I have been busy with work but want to know if the problem is solved for future reference. Thanks :)

iTunes 10.6.1 DOES NOT fix the photo synch problem with either iPad2 or iPad (3rd gen)

(i) I downloaded iTunes 10.6, enabled HomeSharing, turned off-and-on my iPad2 after closing all Apps, and despite my iPad2 enabled for WiFi synch, the device did not show up in iTunes
(ii) So, I connected via USB to the PC, and synch went fine until step 4 of 4 - and in this final step, iTunes just stopped synch and went back to its normal self like nothing happened
(iii) I then wiped my iPad2 clean, restored from scratch via iCloud and re-did all of the above - still no luck

Thinking that Apple SW is perfect (like everything else Apple-related), and disappointed that perhaps there was something wrong with my Settings or a bug introduced when I upgraded to iOS5.1, I gave up...until I saw the headlines yesterday that iTunes 10.6.1 was available, with amongst other things, a specific bug fix for issues having to do with photo synch to iPad.

Eager to try this...

(iv) I then uninstalled iTunes 10.6, dowloaded & installed iTunes 10.6.1, & enabled Home Sharing
(v) Progress .....my device showed up as soon as I was connected to the power source as it should have (but didnt with iTunes 10.6) since I have WiFi synch enabled
(vi) I then proceeded with (i) to (iii) above...same issue, all is well until step 4 of 4, while downloading the photos to my iPad2, it suddenly quits and goes back to minding its own business.

iTunes performance, it turns out may be worse than WMP (which is why I have a Java-based DLNA media player running flawlessly on my PC & never use WMP to serve up content to my PS3
---> TV).

iTunes 10.6.1 is a DISAPPOINTMENT & COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME !!!!

Any Help with this appreciated.....Thanks in Advance

Not everybody has this problem. Photo syncing to my iPad works fine for me.

I heard that this bug might have something to do with the iPhoto app on the iPad. Some people have had luck deleting that App, deleting their iPad photo cache directory on the PC, doing a sync, and then reinstalling the iPhoto app.

there is a big thread about this bug on the Apple support forums.

Ridiculous

"Apple. It's magical! It just works!" I'm calling BS right now - I've tried NUMEROUS syncs and have to reset warnings and reset sync history every time before iTunes will even THINK about syncing. Ridiculous. I'm incredulous. I'm making marginal progress but only because I close iTunes, reopen iTunes, reset warnings, reset sync history, unplug iPad, replug in iPad and try again. STUPIDITY.
