Sorry about the title I could not type anything in.
I am glad that I did not buy a iPad 3 otherwise I would have been screwed. What you got to realize is that people are not angry that the iPad 4 came out soon but that the iPad 3 to Apple became vaporware and with the iPad Mini out they should have discontinued the iPad 2.

The problem is that when a product is no longer sold on Apple that means it won't get any more iOS updates which means eventually when apps are updated for a new iOS the iPad 3 won't be able to run them anymore.

Still it would have made more sense just to discontinue the iPad 2 with the iPad Mini out and no I won't get a iPad Mini it is way overpriced at $329 for a pathetic 16 GB of space and no Retina display at that space it should have been $199.

That's not true at all. The 2nd generation Apple TV still gets iOS updates, and the iPhone 3GS is still supported as well.

The original iPad was still supported a year after it ended production.

As long as the iPad 2 continues to be sold, the iPad 3 will continue to be supported and then some.

It would also be difficult to stop officially supporting a device that is still under AppleCare+ coverage, let alone the base warranty.

i understand ya. The only reason apple isnt selling the ipad 3..is because they dont want to sell it for less..since its so close to the ipad 4.. they can make more money at selling the ipad 2 and 4 (3s)

FWIW, the iPhone 3Gs came with iOS 3 back in 2009.

It got an upgrade to iOS 4 the following year (2010). And iOS 5 the year after that (2011). And although not all features work, it got an upgrade to iOS 6 this year (2012).

Also, most iPad apps still run on the original iPad, even though that was discontinued back in 2010.

Just because a device isn't the latest/greatest, there are still MILLIONS of people using it. Companies are still going to write software for them, because there is money to be made.

My iPad 2 came with 4.3 and was just upgraded to OS6; that's two full OS upgrades.

I definitely believe it will get an update to iOS 7, but Apple's general policy has been: as long as the device is on sale, we'll offer software updates - as soon as it is no longer on sale, software updates will be discontinued.

That's why a 2009 iPhone is upgraded to iOS 6, but a 2010 iPad isn't.
