So my mother in law has an iPad 4, which is less than 12 months old and still in warranty.

Within a month or two it got dropped. Despite being in a case, there are some cracks at the edge of the screen down at the home button end. She can live with that.
The problem is that the lock screen activates constantly. I didn't realise what a pain in the arse it was until today.

I assume the lock screen activation is something to do with a faulty/damaged lock button? Any hints or solutions?

Given the obvious screen damage, does anyone have any thoughts on whether Apple will replace it under warranty for the lock activation problem?
