Does anyone still own the iPad 5 (apple A9!) and upgraded it to iPad OS16? How is the performance? Is it usable?

Well, I have the iPad Pro 9.7" which runs on a A9X. The performance is fine, but the battery life is abysmal!
I now have less than 12 hours of battery life screen off, sleeping. Doing very light stuff, like playing some music, the battery life is down to maybe 2 hours.

Thank you for your feedback. Just checked it has 2GB Ram like the iPad 5. Any issues because of that?

I have the same iPad on iOS 12. Can you share “last 24 hours” and “last 10 days” screenshots, please?

Well, it was my kid who watched YT on it, I don’t think he cranked the brightness.
What worries me most is that if you look at 2 days ago, it was fully charged and drained without me even turning it on. I should have made a screenshot of that when it came alive again. Crazy.
The batteey is at 75% ”health” according to cocoabattery. Not great, but the ”hit” battery life took when upgrading to iPadOs 16 is crazy.

Yeah, if brightness wasn’t at 100%, then it’s not good, even if YouTube is heavier than web browsing. I’d call battery health largely irrelevant, especially on iPads. Their battery is so large that even degraded batteries should work well if they were to be left on a reasonably early iOS version. Battery health is even irrelevant on iPhones, with my 6s on iOS 10 with 63% health being pretty close to my previous 6s on iOS 9 with 100% health. The only thing that matters is the iOS version, unfortunately, like I said, even more on iPads.

I don’t have a solution for you, maybe you can test it with some web browsing at confirmed lower brightness and let me know if it is any better. Just curious, you said you checked with Coconut, how many cycles does it have?

That said, for the background drain, was there any culprit on the battery tab? Anything you can identify? Updated or not, that’s not normal.

It is crazy. Look at last 24 hours. Put to sleep after midnight with around 60%, drained by the morning. "Settings" being the app that has chewed up all battery. Also, screen on for 3 minutes...
The battery has quite a few cycles, around 450 iirc, but not crazy, it is not a new device.
There has to be something badly wrong. I guess I have to bite the bullet and reinstall it.
It is more or less only used for recipies and music in the kitchen. The YouTube:ing is my son watching youtube on it in the car on trips.

What’s that spike from 0% to 100%?

Cycles and battery health is never a reason for bad battery life on iPads, in my experience it is typically the iOS version, usage, or both. This is for screen-on time. You have a huge standby drain, too, and no easily discernible reason for it.

450 cycles for an iPad is nothing, neither is it for iPhones, imo.

I‘m stumped. Settings? Background app refresh? Maybe you can tweak those a little. An apparently “dumb” solution but it often works, have you tried a hard restart? I’ve solved a million weird issues by hard -restarting my iOS devices.
