Exactly why I've never upgraded from my iPad 1.

I want all positives when upgrading, not any negatives. The weight of the iPad 3/4 and the charging times are worse than the iPad 1.

Improve those both, and I'm excited to finally upgrade my 1.

EDIT: Another poster wrote that the iPad 3/4 weight is actually LESS than the iPad 1. Odd. Doesn't feel that way when I hold them. Either way, it's heavier than the iPad 2, thus not everything is the 'best that you can get'. Charging time is still longer though.

In any design there are trade offs. For me retina screen beats any added thickness or weight. That's why I hope Apple moves ahead with a retina mini and also continues to sell the non retina mini. That way those who care most about weight and battery life can stay non retina and those who want the better screen and are willing to give up some battery life will also have an option.

One touchscreen to rule them all

The iPad Mini touchscreen is obviously going to be too small for the full size iPad5. Talk about cutting corners!
I hope they at least cover the middle bit of the screen with the touchscreen, so I won't be able to click any of those stupid banner ads any more.

or the dock.

Put an attachment on the back that has finger holes like a knuckle duster, then you don't need bezels, because you can hold it from behind.

The main thing I will be looking at is the ram. It needs 2gb at this point with 1gb on the ipad 3rd gen I definitely feel that there is a ram issue when using icab browser with multiple tabs. If it doesn't have 2gb I will not be upgrading

Any chance it will be announced on September 10? along with the new iPhone?

All I see is buzz about the new iPhone.

You sure that's not just a placebo effect?

Maybe it's the chip, not the ram?

I never realized they were different touch panels until I dropped my mini on Saturday. The glass became flexible after it shattered, like laminated windshield glass. Stayed together nicely so I didn't end up with glass all over the floor.

possibly. I have found my ipad to be extremely slow lately, I have to wonder if they naturally slow down with time for some reason. I like the UFC and it literally takes 2 minutes to load the main page on MMAfighting.com in icab (safari is a bit faster even though I have nitrous running so they should render at the same speed). My macbook air on the other hand takes about 5 seconds

iPad Mini

the ipad 2 design is better than the ipad 3/4 design. That thickness and heaviness they introduced really sucks

I broke the screen of my iPad 2 and it's out of warranty  so I'll have to get a new one. I don't like the heaviness either so I'll just go with the mini, the price is better, http://www.bell.ca/Mobility/Products/Apple-iPad-mini; and why wait 'till the iPad next generation appears (heavy or not).

Was all set on getting a mini when it comes out with the retina display but i think i might just change my mind and go with the bigger one if they manage to cut down on the weight by 20-30%, 3rd gen iPad often feels heavy.

It's funny really, i mean i used to carry a laptop that weights 6-8 times more then my iPad and now i am complaining about something that barely weights a pound... guess i am spoiled.

I'm not so sure about that. You do however see lots of complaints by Nexus 7 owners on how the iPad Mini is difficult to hold.

I'm not sure how they'd know, though. Weird..

To be fair this is actually true. I really wanted to switch to an iPad mini. My boyfriend just got one for work and I've had a chance to try it out in real world use (aka not in a store). Much harder to hold in portrait than I expected. I was actually very surprised because I love the look of the small bezels. Apple needs to drop plain aluminum for the back though. Too slippery.

You guys are missing the bigger picture!

Notice how there's an Apple logo on the back side of the whole assembly? You can see it from the front.

This is the Transparent iPad!!!

I wish the glass and the display were fused together just like the iPhone 5. I think it'll give a much better experience comparing to them being separated from each other because, with them being fused together as one display assembly as seen on the iPhone 5, the space between the glass and the display is very much reduced. If you have an iPhone 5, I'm sure you'll get what I mean.

*I don't know much about the display assembly so this is my best explanation.

Apple is expected to introduce the fifth-generation iPad as soon as next month, with an updated iPad mini rumored to be following fairly soon after.

Nope. They won't want anything to overshadow the new iPhones.

My guess both new iPad and iPad mini to appear at same event on 22 Oct.

please make the ipad thinner and lighter Apple.

At first I was amazed by my iPad, having owned Kindles all the time. Then suddenly I found I was shocked by how much it weighed, it was heavy. Oh sure it feel lights, until your propping it up or holding it awhile. Yes the kindle does one thing and one thing only, but its weight is so little that every tablet you pick up regardless of functionality feels like a brick.

So the lighter the better, the day the mini gets to kindle white weights, which I don't think is really that far off, the better

iPad 1 was truly a god awful tablet. I picked up a second-hand one out of curiosity around the same time the iPad 2 was released.

It was slow. It was bulky and awkward. Safari kept crashing and/or checkerboarding (probably thanks to the paltry 256mb of RAM Apple decided to cheap out on)

I got my hands on an iPad 2 and sold the 1 immediately. There's a world of difference between the two, it's almost sad.

People were upset that the iPad didn't get iOS 6.... I think it shouldn't even got iOS 5. What a turd of a tablet.

I still love my iPad 2 though :D

Charging times are irrelevant, since the iPad lasts all day, and most people charge their devices at night...

They do and it's in Apple's interest. I presume they deliberately didn't include TRIM support in iOS so that those devices slow down over time - just like the first Nexus 7 did, but more slowly - in order to force the consumer to buy a new product after a few years.

You do know that every small software update tends to slow down the machine?

I think it's done on purpose. Try and avoid updating unless there's some serious bug.

I am on 6.1 still, never got to 6.1.2 and then 6.1.3 wasn't jailbreakable so I kept it where it was
