T-Mobile has announced that the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4 are now available through its JUMP! On Demand upgrade program, enabling qualified customers to purchase either tablet on an 18-month lease and upgrade to a newer tablet up to three times per year. The program breaks down the price of each iPad into equal monthly payments starting at $22/month with $0 due upfront.

iPad Air 2
16GB: $26/month, $0 due upfront
64GB: $25/month, $99.99 due upfront
128GB: $24/month, $199.99 due upfront

iPad mini 4
16GB: $22/month, $0 due upfront
64GB: $21/month, $99.99 due upfront
128GB: $19/month, $199.99 due upfront

The limited time offer is available by calling T-Mobile at 1-877-500-6055 or visiting a participating T-Mobile store in the U.S. At the end of the 18-month lease, the iPad must be returned in working order, or the customer can pay off the remaining balance to keep it. If a customer cancels wireless service during a lease, remaining payments on the iPad become due. See T-Mobile's tablet plans.

This doesn't exactly align with the fact that newer iPads are only released once a year, or now apparently, every other year. The lease would be up before a new device even came out.

I realize you could swap out for a new size or change to an Android tablet, but is that the expected normal use-case?

I was wondering when they would do this. If they ever do one for the Apple Watch, I might consider getting it, since reselling is a pain.

Yea not sure about this- I have the iPhone on JoD, but not sure if I need the trade-in option on an iPad. I'll have to take a look at how much it costs to add a tablet to my current plan, in addition to these payments.

Not worth it, if you kept the iPad for a year you are looking at paying 60-70% of full retail price over the year prior to trade in.

It looks like it will cost $10/month to add it to your plan with matched data where you get the same amount of data as your phone plan, and then the device payment of at least $22/month, plus some taxes, so probably $35-40 per month to add this on and have an iPad on the plan. But you do get another allotment of data, which looks like includes tethering.
