NegativeThe Mini SoC has always been at least a generation behind the 9.7" iPads.
Mini 2 and Air matched with A7 SOC at launch.
Even the original and the 3 where the SOC lagged it was very clear jn Apples marketing material.

Yes. It needs the 2gb of ram for side by side apps which are shown off on apple.com.Hmmmm... No Air 3 this year. What is going to be my iPad 3 replacement ? The Air 3 would have been a no brainier, but now I'm wondering. My iPad 3 is used primarily at home for convenient web surfing (99%). Most of my travel is for scuba diving trips, and I always take my iPad and my MBP laptop; the pad for surfing and the laptop to watch movies on the plane and review the underwater videos that I have taken and also to store/backup those videos. I don't think the iPad Pro could replace the laptop, so I'll still need both. The thought process involved in typing this reply has led me to realize that the replacement will be the Mini 4 !
But wait .... Is it going to have 2GB of ram ?![]()

There should be substantial discounts on the Air2 via third party retailers due to it aging.
I fixed that for you, no need to thank me. Ive worked in two fruit stands, and "clients" have always asked why the Airs screen is more "colorful" when I placed them side by side for them..Plus If you combed through this forum enough, you'll find plenty of threads with people complaining about the screen..Like I said, heres to hoping they fixed that with the now laminated display in the mini 4.Color gamut....something I Don't care about when I buy an iPad. if they are close, its good to go for me .
Way to spend time of something that matters so little.I fixed that for you, no need to thank me. I bit the bullet today and bought and iPad Air 2. I was hoping for and Air 3 but it doesn't look like they want to release one, and the Mini 4 is a bit too small for me. I had the original iPad Air but I couldn't deal with the reloading safari pages anymore. I had a bit of a play with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 while I was in the store. It was fast and beautiful but I found the scrolling not as good as the iPad. With everything Apple in our house it's really hard to consider switching to android. Hopefully Apple doesn't pull a iPad 4 on us and crank out a new tablet in 7 months. So far the new iPad runs like a champ.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S experience. I spent alot of time with the Tab S and a few days with the Tab S2.
I had 3 Tab S in various sizes in my home for 6 months. Awesome screen but there is a lag in scrolling that will drive anyone use to a ipad nuts. My Ipad 3 is was sooo much smoother than the Tab S and the Tab S2. They all seem to lag and require multiple taps. Its so common that after a while with the Galaxy Tab s, you dont even know you are tapping the screen twice to open up a web function. When I go back to my Ipad 3 (64gb), it seems sooo much smoother faster and responsive and its loaded up to 97% full of crap. How does a way older loaded up Ipad3 out perform a new top of the line android tablet??
The other issue with the Tab S and Tab S2 is its battery life. Its average to poor for the Tab S and horrible for the Tab S2. Just get to 5 hours of web browsing on my Tab S 8.4 and 10.5, you have to be in battery saver mode with the screen reduced to 30% brightness. So why have a Tab S if you cant even use the screen to its full potential?? y wife gaab S and went back to using her Ipad2. There were other buggy issues that popped up running Lollipop with the Galaxy platform. The quintessential deathblow to the Galaxy Tab series for me is the new Ipad mini 4. It will blow the Galaxy out of the water in speed and performance. The A6 chip was faster that the Tab S on alot of levels. The A7 was clearly faster in actual performance test. The A8 2G will destroy it.
I have a Mini 4 128 coming and going to order the Pro in 128 when its time. I really tried to like the android tablets but they still dont measure up to the ipad standard.

I just picked up the Galaxy Tab S2 a week ago to try it out before the iPad announcement. I've got 30 days to return it, so figured why not as the S2 appeared to have so much potential. I'm coming from a long line of iPad use and this was my first venture into Android. Here is my take on the S2:
Major Pros:
-gorgeous display....bright, colorful, perfect really
-Thin and light....awesome form factor
-Performance-I'm finding the performance to be fast and smooth....no complaints
-Samsung book cover: Dead sexy! Perfect! Keeps the form factor thin and light.
-micro SD slot to expand storage to 128GB
Major Cons:
- Battery life: less than stellar! Seems to be a trade off for the thin/light form. Noticeable difference from my last 2 iPads (Air original and Mini 2)
- Apps: Android seriously trails IOS in apps optimized for tablets. Facebook for example, is terrible on the S2 vs the Facebook app for iPad.
I'll likely return this for iPad Mini 4. However, I'm going to wait until some reviews are in to make sure there are no "surprises" with this iteration of the Mini. If it's confirmed that the display issues (gamut) have been addressed, there is 2GB of ram and the A8 performance is up to the task for IOS 9....cool, I'm in.
I don't think the iPad's battery can be beat so I was afraid that might be the case. Gratz on the new Mini headed your way. I wish my eyes were better because I probably would have ordered one myself. I'm happy with my Air 2 so far and the iPad stays home unless we are on vacation so it all works out.
