The Mini SoC has always been at least a generation behind the 9.7" iPads.
Negative
Mini 2 and Air matched with A7 SOC at launch.

Even the original and the 3 where the SOC lagged it was very clear jn Apples marketing material.

Hmmmm... No Air 3 this year. What is going to be my iPad 3 replacement ? The Air 3 would have been a no brainier, but now I'm wondering. My iPad 3 is used primarily at home for convenient web surfing (99%). Most of my travel is for scuba diving trips, and I always take my iPad and my MBP laptop; the pad for surfing and the laptop to watch movies on the plane and review the underwater videos that I have taken and also to store/backup those videos. I don't think the iPad Pro could replace the laptop, so I'll still need both. The thought process involved in typing this reply has led me to realize that the replacement will be the Mini 4 !
But wait .... Is it going to have 2GB of ram ? :)
Yes. It needs the 2gb of ram for side by side apps which are shown off on apple.com.

There should be substantial discounts on the Air2 via third party retailers due to it aging.

Even if Apple doesn't reduce the price, others probably will, as you say. Best Buy had some great pricing on the Air 2 this summer. I picked up a virgin open box LTE 64GB Air 2 for $500.

If you have looked at the mini2/3 line vs iPhone or iPad 3 to Air 2 the colors are so washed out it really detracts from the experience especially at the crazy Apple price point.

I want to know if the color gamut is full now. Are there any on hands with the iPad Mini 4 reviews

Color gamut....something I Don't care about when I buy an iPad. if they are close, its good to go for me .
I fixed that for you, no need to thank me. Ive worked in two fruit stands, and "clients" have always asked why the Airs screen is more "colorful" when I placed them side by side for them..Plus If you combed through this forum enough, you'll find plenty of threads with people complaining about the screen..Like I said, heres to hoping they fixed that with the now laminated display in the mini 4.

Picked up an Air 2 yesterday. Thought I was done with apple, but android frustrates me...

A8X in Air2, A8 in Mini 4. Also, they were on sale at best buy so I figured why not.

For me the question now is should I get an iPad mini4 or an iphone 6. With the $100 price cut they are both pretty equal in price. The 6 arguably has better technical specs for the camera but the mini has the bigger screen. For using on the go the 6 is easier to pocket. I have an air2 and the mini doesn't really bring anything that the air2 can't do while the 6 would be an awesome replacement for my touch 5. Decisions decisions..

I bit the bullet today and bought and iPad Air 2. I was hoping for and Air 3 but it doesn't look like they want to release one, and the Mini 4 is a bit too small for me. I had the original iPad Air but I couldn't deal with the reloading safari pages anymore. I had a bit of a play with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 while I was in the store. It was fast and beautiful but I found the scrolling not as good as the iPad. With everything Apple in our house it's really hard to consider switching to android. Hopefully Apple doesn't pull a iPad 4 on us and crank out a new tablet in 7 months. So far the new iPad runs like a champ.

i would say the iPad air 2 it has a better cpu inside it the iPad mini 4 don't have the a8x chip in it.it has a a8 chip instead

Way to spend time of something that matters so little.

guys, guys, we're getting all angry over nothing, the only people we should be upset with is apple for not telling us how much ram the ipad mini 4 has and that the iphone 6s has 16gigs

depends what are you using it for? mini is great for on the go but with my soon to be 6S plus I doubt i would find the need for a mini.

air 2 is perfect for at home

After absorbing the Apple event, the new mini 4 instantly caught my eyes even though it wasn't push at the release. Hugely under hyped and probably didn't need to be hyped if you are looking for a portable tablet power house. I ordered a mini 4 128 instantly as the class destroyer in that mini tablet category. I will also buy the Pro as my big tablet and use one of my many average size iPads as their backups.

I'm actually going to get an iPad Mini 4 to replace my iPad Air 1. My wife has the Mini 2 and I honestly prefer the comfort of the Mini over the Air. I often us my iPad while laying down and find the Air to be a little too heavy and cumbersome to hold for long periods.

If you're carrying it around a lot (e.g. using on transit) then the mini is likely a better choice. If you're wanting to draw or something, where a bigger space makes a noticeable difference in ease of work, then the iPad Air is probably a better purchase.

9.7" is too big for one handed use and too small for two handed use and productivity. I'd go with the 7.9" iPad Mini 4 if it has 2GB DRAM and equivalent performance to iPad Air 2 otherwise if it doesn't go up to iPad Pro.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S experience. I spent alot of time with the Tab S and a few hours with the Tab S2.
I had 3 Tab S in various sizes in my home for 6 months. Awesome screen but there is a lag in scrolling that will drive anyone use to a ipad nuts. My Ipad 3 is was sooo much smoother than the Tab S and the Tab S2. They all seem to lag and require multiple taps. Its so common that after a while with the Galaxy Tab s, you dont even know you are tapping the screen twice to open up a web function. When I go back to my Ipad 3 (64gb), it seems sooo much smoother faster and responsive and its loaded up to 97% full of crap. How does a way older loaded up Ipad3 out perform a new top of the line android tablet??;)

The other issue with the Tab S and Tab S2 is its battery life. Its average to poor for the Tab S and horrible for the Tab S2. Just get to 5 hours of web browsing on my Tab S 8.4 and 10.5, you have to be in battery saver mode with the screen reduced to 30% brightness. So why have a Tab S if you cant even use the screen to its full potential?? My wife dumped her Tab S and went back to using her Ipad2. There were other buggy issues that popped up running Lollipop with the Galaxy platform. The quintessential deathblow to the Galaxy Tab series for me is the new Ipad mini 4. It will blow the Galaxy out of the water in speed and performance. The A6 chip was faster that the Tab S on alot of levels. The A7 was clearly faster in actual performance test. The A8 2G will destroy it.

I have a Mini 4 128 coming and going to order the Pro in 128 when its time. I really tried to like the android tablets but they still dont measure up to the ipad standard.

I don't think the iPad's battery can be beat so I was afraid that might be the case. Gratz on the new Mini headed your way. I wish my eyes were better because I probably would have ordered one myself. I'm happy with my Air 2 so far and the iPad stays home unless we are on vacation so it all works out.

I just picked up the Galaxy Tab S2 a week ago to try it out before the iPad announcement. I've got 30 days to return it, so figured why not as the S2 appeared to have so much potential. I'm coming from a long line of iPad use and this was my first venture into Android. Here is my take on the S2:

Major Pros:
-gorgeous display....bright, colorful, perfect really
-Thin and light....awesome form factor
-Performance-I'm finding the performance to be fast and smooth....no complaints
-Samsung book cover: Dead sexy! Perfect! Keeps the form factor thin and light.
-micro SD slot to expand storage to 128GB

Major Cons:
- Battery life: less than stellar! Seems to be a trade off for the thin/light form. Noticeable difference from my last 2 iPads (Air original and Mini 2)
- Apps: Android seriously trails IOS in apps optimized for tablets. Facebook for example, is terrible on the S2 vs the Facebook app for iPad.

I'll likely return this for iPad Mini 4. However, I'm going to wait until some reviews are in to make sure there are no "surprises" with this iteration of the Mini. If it's confirmed that the display issues (gamut) have been addressed, there is 2GB of ram and the A8 performance is up to the task for IOS 9....cool, I'm in.

I dont blame you. I had the Tab S2 for a half a day to compare it to my Tab S. They actually gutted the Tab S2 over the Tab S. Especially the battery size. I was hoping they would have increased the battery size over the Tab S but went the other way?? Everyone in Galaxy Tab world is left wondering whats going on???
I really wanted to like the Tab S (especially in the 16:9 format) but after using them for 6 months, I came to the conclusion that I did. I am running back to Ipad when I saw the specs of the Mini 4. I will also get the Pro and that will cement my portable gadgets this year. I just dont see any competition to the Ipad from the Android camp.

Does this comment apply for both iPad and iPad Mini?

I am very VERY dissapointed that there is no iPad Air 3 this year (bad Apple!) thus I think I am moving to Mini 4 just because I don't want to buy Air 2 which is considered last year's product. So I want to get comments and opinion on Mini esp. its' battery.
