Last time I bought an iPad Air to replace the 3 I gave to my folks I was disappointed with the screen uneven brightness/shading that I returned and lived w/o an ipad for years.

A couple of days ago I got an Air 2 w/ BB 100$ off deal, I thought it was time to get back into the ipad world :) The Air 2 is really nice, not heavy even w/ the case. But the screen, for the love of everything technology sacred, is still not what you would expect from an apple device. There is a clear left sided darker band half inch away from the left edge.

Are there good Air 2 screens around? I'm asking whether I should bother to return this one into a best buy and get another one or not...

I'd return it. My Air 2 doesn't exhibit any screen deficiencies that I can see and you certainly don't see a large number of complaints about the screen on the forum (recognizing that with a large volume of sales that there will be problem units).

You gave your parents 3 iPad airs? That's a really nice present! What do they do with the 3rd?

I think it's just a luck of the draw type deal with mass produced products.

My 2008 MacBook Pro had terrible backlight bleed. My 2011 and 2013 mbps had great screens (including the repaired screen I just got after the anti-reflective coating started wearing n the 2013 model.

My iPhone 3G had nice colour, the 4s was a bit more sickly tinted (but otherwise a fantastic device!), and the 6 was back to a nice balanced colour.

My iPad 3 had a very uneven screen, so I exchanged it for a gorgeous screen, and the 9.7 pro has a quite decent screen too.

I bought an open box Air 2 from Best Buy and the screen is lovely,,sounds like you got a bad one, I would exchange it.

I own an iPad Air 2 and an old iPad 4. Side by side the overall quality of iPad 4 screen is superior at the new one.

My Air 2 screen is fabulous!! Sounds like either you got a lemon or you're expecting way more from your Air 2 screen than it's capable of.

My Air 2 screen is perfect. No backlight issues, no bleeding and no shading. I haven't had the same luck with my 6s though. First one had two tone display (top was blue tint while bottom was yellow tint). Second 6s had shading pressure points and my third 6s has shading pressure points too. Unfortunately I have learned to live with it.

I have had every iPhone from the 3G and all my display problems have always occurred on the 's' version of the devices.
