Hi guys how are you?

I have an iPad Air 2, bought this at launch, so 4 years ago

Now I have a chance to buy a Pro one, or the 12.9 or the 10.5, I use the iPad a lot, not for work, just for entertainment, YouTube, watch baseball, twich, surf at the web.... Do you guys think that worth the change? The air 2 is a powerful one, I never tested the pro before

I live in Brazil so here I don't have the option to return if I don't like the product I just have the option to test the iPad at the store for a few minutes, that's why I'm here asking what should or should not do

Thanks for any advice guys

Personally if all you're doing is browsing and media consumption I don't know if its worth the cost to upgrade. You'll get the nicer truetone display and better speakers on the pro models but if you're not pushing the boundaries of performance on your current iPad Air 2 then is there really any need to spend money just for the minor improvements in display/sound? Only you can decide that I guess based upon how valuable you feel those upgrades are.

I love my 12.9" IPP and my wife loves her iPad Air 2. I've thought about upgrading her to an iPP 10.5 but I doubt she'd make much use of the improvements on it over the Air 2 given that all she does is browse the web, do email and play solitaire on it.

Honestly if you don't need any of the Pro features (Smart connector, Apple Pencil compatibility) and you are mostly using it for consumption I'd hang onto your Air 2 for another year yet. The Air 2 still stands up very well and is plenty fast for web surfing, video watching etc. Wait at least until Apple releases the next generation of iPad Pros anyway...

Being a 3.5 year old device that you use heavily, are you still happy with battery life? That might be your biggest reason to upgrade, as the newest model with a fresh battery is going to last longer. That's usually not a big factor since iPads easily last all day under most circumstances. I know our Air 1 still goes a week between charges.

You might also consider the entry level iPad whenever you do decide to update. Though the screen is actually a slight downgrade from the Air 2 (not laminated and no AR coating), it’s a whole lot cheaper than an iPad Pro. If all you’re doing is watching tv and surfing the web on your iPad, do you really want to spend $650+ on a new one?

Considering all the answers here I'll wait a new iPad to be released, something really new, like the iPhone X was last year, I can handle the Air 2 for some time, it's a good device

And just for your curiosity, do you believe that the new iPad that was released latest month is almost the same price as the iPad 10.5 here in Brazil? Yes we have crazy prices here so sometimes the entry level gadgets do not worth at all here

I updated from the Air 2 to the 10.5 at the beginning of this year and am really, really happy about it. I can't point to any one thing but I find myself using the 10.5 quite a lot more than the Air 2. I use it mainly for consumption and the overall experience is just a lot better. I have the ASK but never use it and the Pencil, which I use occasionally, so I'd have to say that the display improvement played a big role - brighter, better, bigger. I thought I might regret spending the $ but have found the complete opposite to be true.

If they come up with an iPhone X like Pro, it will be a single size. The base WiFi model in USA will likely be at least around USD 999 plus taxes. In Brazil it will probably be at least USD 1500ish or so.

What are you basing all this on? To the best of my knowledge, there haven’t been any rumors predicting anything beyond Face ID coming to the iPad line this year.

Note this down:

Contingent on the new iPad Pro being > 10.5, minimal bezels, Face ID and OLED display, it will be a minimum of USD 999 for the base WiFi model.

You'll see it when it happens. And there is a good 90% chance that such an iPad X will be released this June.

Ok I’ll do that...

We have seen zero rumors of an OLED iPad this year. There have been rumors of a Face ID iPad, but other reports indicate horizontal Face ID support (which would basically be a requirement for an iPad) won’t arrive until iOS 12 this fall. Combine that with the total lack of any part leaks and no leaks of any kind in recent weeks and I think it’s pretty unlikely we’ll see an iPad Pro update before fall at the earliest.
