The middle iPad (Air) feels like the worst purchase. Buy the best or the cheapest.
Can you give me reasons why? I’m looking at a regular iPad and thinking strongly about the iPad Air partly because of Pencil 2 and the ability to attach an SSD hard drive. And the laminated screen. It’s a big leap in cost for me to go to the Air. The Pro is way out of my league.

The pro 128 is $50 higher than air 256 with much better spec, and there is only 64gb air below 256gb. Contrary to initial perception, price-wise, the Pro is not really out of league.

I’m seeing this sentiment a lot. If you need more than 128 GB then the price difference is much more.

Dang, I wish this was out at Christmas, this would quite probably last my grandma the rest of her life vs. the standard iPad I got her. It's quite the beast at this price!

Not sure if I missed it somewhere but is there any confirmation if these M1 chips on the new iPad Air will be running at full clock speed or will they be downclocked similar to what happen on the Mini 6?

I just ordered a refurbished iPad Pro 11 2nd generation with 128 GB. The iPad Air lacks the 128 GB option. I don't need 256 GB ever, so why should I pay for it? The 64 GB version is just not enough future proof.
Excellent machine. The A12Z with 6GB of RAM is far more than enough for several years with iPadOS, especially if you are not using apps that require lots of CPU/GPU performance. The A12Z multi-core scores are still significantly higher than the scores from the processor in the new Samsung Tab S8 Ultra.

I have said this many times and will repeat again, as many others have as well, the only thing holding back the iPad is iPadOS. They have been quite overkill since the A12X from 2018.

Received this Apple refurbished iPad Pro yesterday. Nice machine which replaces my old iPad 10.9. Pricetag on the refurbished is €250,- lower compared to the 3rd generation iPad Pro 11 128 GB (wifi+cellular) and much cheaper compared to the new iPad Air 256 GB (wifi+cellular).

The 2020 iPad Pro 11” is a great tablet. Still one of the best on the market. And I’d pick it over the new iPad Air every time.

The two storage tiers on the Air ruin the whole iPad shopping experience for me. First I look at the 64GB Air, then talk myself up to the 128GB Pro, then realize I started at $599 and am now looking at $1000 after taxes. Then do you know what I do? I buy nothing, and decide to make my current iPad last through yet another refresh cycle.

Same here!!! But maybe even a longer wait.

Once you’ve used a Pro you can’t go back to the Air… Promotion is that big of a deal. 120hz displays are something that you really can’t come back from. Phones are small enough that they don’t really matter, but everything bigger should be 120hz. Try watching sports on a 60hz LCD TV after getting used to 120hz OLED or even VS LCD; same difference.

Counter point: I prefer 60hz. 120hz is ok on the iPad but nothing to write home about. 120hz on a TV looks bad to me. But, what do I know?

For me, it made big difference. It looks like different one person to another. My eyes is quite sensitive hence I can read in hours on iPad - contrary at max 1-2 hour on MacBook Air before my eyes got uncomfortable.

My wife's iPad Pro 10 point something inch has only 64 GB. She has an off roading mapping app with Australia's roads etc on it - that takes up 19 GB. So she needs more space. So I looked up the options in order to get larger storage capacity. By the time I added cellular, I was well into Windows level notebooks that had a keyboard and all had touch screens of course. My wife cannot get a new Macbook Air either - because those do not have touch screens. Apple short changes on touch screens on their notebooks, and short changes on the cost of storage on their iPads. Which leads onto Windows who offer value with disk storage, and touch screens.

I own an iPad Pro 12.9 2020 and to be honest it has been part of my graphic design, audio and video editing workflow working excellent even right now. My iPad Pro doesn't have an M1 chip, and the way it works is out of this world. What I don't use? The camera is collecting dust since day one. I've never used that camera, neither one of them, like never. I also never use any thunderbolt external device because I just have a USB-C port. So all my peripherals are USB-C only.

So... been said that. I think an iPad Air 2022 with 256g and 5G is my next upgrade. I will be doing better and faster, spending less for the upgrade. I'm serious. 12.9 vs 11.9 is barely notable. $749 vs $1399 is a better deal, no matter how you put it. It's a STEAL! Better processor, Better Storage for $650 less??? INSANELY GOOD. You can't top that. Even with the nerdy talk about the liquid retina xdr pro motion crap when Ventura let you use your own monitor with it. This is crazy goo

Except the iPad Air is a 10.9 inch, not an 11.9 inch.

The difference between 12.9” and 10.9-11” is very noticeable to me. Granted, if you plan on primarily using an external display, then it’s not much of an issue.

Do note, the 256GB 5G Air 5 is $899 not $749. Granted, you can find discounts on both.
