reading iOS 9 section people are saying is running smooth on the air 2

And with the recent news about some of the new features only working on the air 2

Do you think Apple will put 2gb of ram on the air 3 again or go with more 3gb/4gb ?

I think Apple is going to promote the iPad pro like they did with the air 2 & iPad mini 3 , the air 3 will be a small update maybe have the shape of the iPhone 6 ,same ram 2gb and the 9x chip

The iPad pro will have all the good stuff , more ram

Same 2GB but LPDDR4 rather than LPDDR3. And the A9. And I agree, the Pro will get the good stuff, A9X and 4GB.

If is the same 2gb there's no need to upgrade from the air 2

Why would you say that without knowing what the Air 3 will wield to us? I've had my Air 2 for nearly a week, and so far, I'm more than satisfied. In short, the iPad does not need more memory. What it does need is longer battery life, and maybe Force Touch if all the other devices are getting it. Those sorts of things will persuade people to upgrade. Besides, people don't generally upgrade between generations, especially with iPads.

Yup. Needs better battery life. Doesn't really need Force Touch, but I guess small incremental changes will definitely upgrade the Air 2 to make it the "worse" predecessor.

It's more profitable to continue the minimal required for as long as they can so expect iPad Air 3 to have the same 2GB DRAM. The rumored iPad Pro may get more as an incentive to pay more for it.

For bigger battery they need to make the iPad thicker , that's not going to happen
Force touch is not going to make people upgrade just for that

I don't see Apple adding force touch to the iPad , maybe iPad Air 4
The iPhone 6s will get it first if it happens

And iOS 9 is suppose to improve battery already
The current iPad battery is fine by me

It's possible that the Air 3 could include new hardware capabilities such as an active digitizer. After watching the demo of multiwindow/Splitview, etc. in iOS9, I wouldn't be surprised if there is no larger "Pro" iPad coming this year. If Apple were to provide an active digitizer and/or support for Bluetooth pointing devices, that could provide a serious bump for "Pro" users.

I will wait for the REFRESH Ipad Air 4 or Ipad Pro 2 in 2016.... The Ipad Air 3 or Ipad Pro will have a little upgraded processor, with different design and same RAM... I preffer to wait .. I bet next year Apple will increase the RAM on 2016 Ipads..... and will add force touch to it!!I always upgrade on the "S" Ipads lke Air 2

I said BETTER battery, not bigger. If the A9 is more power efficient, and the battery stays the same size, do you even know how much extra life they could add? And I did say that the Air 3 won't make people upgrade from the Air 2 whatever they do. Why? One, iPad Air 2 is nearly flawless in terms of hardware, two, people don't upgrade between generations. And Force Touch is allegedly coming to all of :apple:s devices this year, so yes, it will happen.

IPHONE 5S come with touch id, while the Original Ipad Air (launched in the same year) doesnt have touch id

Ipad Air 2 have touch id

SO....

We'll see. I think that the Air 3 is going to be a significant upgrade (if there is no "Pro" model).

For better battery or longer battery life the battery needs to be bigger
They actually made it smaller on the air 2 from the air 1 , because of the thinness

You said the iPad Air 3 needs longer battery , I simply said in order to do that they have to make the battery bigger & that means a thicker iPad , I don't see Apple going that route for the air 3
There going to maybe make it last an hour longer with iOS 9

I agree with all your predictions, but I am unsure about the 4GB. They might pull and iPad 1 and only include 2GB, but hopefully they don't. And you're so right about battery life, I think it's time to say greater than 10 hours. They've been saying that since the first one while the iPhone's battery life numbers are actually increasing (albeit very slowly).

I'm going to finally be looking to update my iPad (original), and have considered iPad Air 2. However, I'm not in a rush and with the changes coming in ios9, I want to future proof as much as possible.
Does anyone think Air 3 (or whatever it's called) will have significant changes. I haven't really followed the upgrade cycle on iPads as I have been satisfied with my current.
$$ isn't really an issue, but if there's no big change in the 3, then I would consider, at this point, just getting a refurb 2. I know the major difference will be a new chip.
Comments?

Buy the air 2 now from the refurb store , if the next air 3 in November has 4gb of ram ,sell the air 2 '& buy the air 3

But I would say there's an 80% chance the air 3 will have the same 2gb ram as the air 2

Thanks for the thought... The 2 should be reduced in price when 3 is announced. Not sure if I really want to wait until November...Maybe September? Once again, I would hope that at least the latest iPads wouldn't suffer the short life of the original. Would like to get at least 3 IOS upgrades for it.

Here is a fun fact: from the iPad 4 to the iPad Air they had to decrease the battery capacity by 24%. The battery life did not change. Why? Because they used a more power efficient chip. If they did that again with the Air 3, while keeping the battery size the same, they could easily get up to 14 hours.

3 iOS upgrades will have no value to you if each upgrade degrades performance and stability. My iPad 1 running iOS 5.1 performs better than my iPad 2 and iPad 4 running iOS 8.x.

The Air 2 will be a year old by the time iOS 9 is released. That's 1 year off the effective lifespan of the device. There is the possibility of hardware improvements in the next gen iPad over the Air 2. Even if the amount of RAM is not increased, there are other components that may be improved.

I suggest waiting until the next gen is announced/released. If there is little advantage, then the Air 2 will most likely drop in price (as the iPad Mini 2 dropped with the announce of the Mini 3).

I'm sitting tight with my iPad 2 and 4 waiting to see what unfolds later this year. I'll make a decision then as to what to do.

The iPad has had the same battery life since 2010 , Apple is happy with the 10 hours

That's not the point. They are at the stage where if they make it thinner, they would be missing out. So what better than to take advantage of that, and make a killer battery life?
