I don't think it's necessarily an indication that a new iPad will not be announced. I think that the fact that Apple may be going to release a smaller iPhone is probably of more interest as it's an unusual and more surprising move. I would be very surprised if they did not announce a successor to the iPad Air 2. My thinking is that they may well want to bring the 9.7" iPads into alignment with the bigger iPad Pro in terms of features and have two sizes that offer similar or the same features.

Lots of iOS updates today for my iPad Pro. One of them - in the update description - caught my eye... :)

It is weird to see tons of news on the iPhone 7 which is still 6mo away, but very little on the iPad Air 3 with is 6 days away.

But then again, what exactly are they going to report? Speakers. Smart Connector. Pencil Support. All solid features but hardly headline material.

As a dissatisfied iPad Pro owner then I'm excited for a new 9.7" iPad because I feel that's the sweet spot for tablets. And once it gets the speakers and pencil support then it will be a machine worth upgrading to... In 4mo when it starts going on sale.

oopsie daisy, looks like one developer forgot to change the update scheduling after the announcement date was changed from the 15th ;)

That, or they found out they had code that limited Pencil input to the current Pro (you shouldn't, but hey, it happens), and they yanked it out to ensure compatibility in case the rumors are true. :p
