iPad iPad Air 3 Physical Design

Is the 2019 iPad Air identical in physical design to the original iPad Air 2 or the outgoing 10.5” iPad Pro?

I ask as I’m seeking some accessories for mine before it comes and I’m hoping it’ll fit one of the existing devices in terms of the back case fitting snug into a clip on case.

10.5 pro cases should fit, however the pro has four speakers, so reusing cases will mean cutouts on top, but no speakers. Also not sure, but you would have to make sure microphone placement hasn’t changed.

The reason Apple’s smart covers and the Smart Keyboard are already available for the Air 3 is that they’re identical to those for the Pro 10.5.

Agreed. Front covers, such as ASK or Smart Cover will work, but back covers may not based on speaker/microphone placement.

Microphone and button placement are exactly the same as before. The chassis dimensions are exactly the same as the 10.5" Pro.
