Some iPhone 6s plus specs:
3D Touch
7000 series aluminum
Strongest cover glass
A9 chip with M9
2nd-generation Touch ID
LTE Advanced and Faster Wi-Fi
Retina Flash

Stereo audio for landscape orientation
It needs to be A9X not A9 since A9 won't be better than the current A8X that's in the iPad Air 2. So, more than likely we'll get the A9X chip which is in the iPad Pro but slightly lower clocked.

Combine that with the camera of iPhone 6, 3/4 GB of RAM, new speedy NAND storage which is used in iPhones 6s & iPad Pro and Apple Pencil support (why not?) and you have a solid winner. Take my money Apple.

300 or greater DPI.

The Mini 4 looks outstanding and the pixel density is one of the main reasons. I feel 300 is the magic number for my eyes.

I'm an Air 2 owner (previously had iPad 4) and went to the Apple store today and checked out the pro for the first time.

I was actually shocked at the form factor - it was not nearly as unwieldly/large as I thought it would be, and the weight was surprisingly light. I was impressed with the product, and could see myself having a tough decision between it and an Air 3. On a side note, I tried the Apple Pencil and I didn't think it was that great. The white plastic was cheap (should be aluminum) and although it was the best stylus I've ever used, it still had noticeable latency. I have no need for the pencil anyway, so whatever. The smart keyboard had great tactile feel, but again, something I'd never use.

As for the Air 3, for the love of god can we get a redesign to look like the iPhone 6/6S? The chamfered edge look is so freaking old at this point and seeing the same old crap on the brand new iPad Pro is really lame IMO. Beyond that, it's time for a genuine screen update (which I'm sure we won't get), and how about a 12-15 hour battery? Other than that it'll be the usual improved processor/GPU, camera, and some other piddly updates. They may as well go ahead and add a flash finally, otherwise just drop the camera altogether. I've been drooling over what a black Air 3 would look like in iPhone 6/6S form factor.

Have had iPads since the iPad 2. Never cracked my screen. You guys need to be more careful

I know plenty of people who have cracked their screens, its not hard to do. I knocked my iPad 2 with the tuning pegs of my guitar while recording in garage band, quite lightly and crack. Got it replaced and 2 months later, a 10 cm slide onto a tiled floor (while in a case that had exposed corners, and smash - the whole screen gone again.

When do we think we will see the Air 3, I was thinking of upgrading the iPad Air that I currently have to the air 2 this week

No matter what Apple does, the iPad Air 3 will distract people from the iPad Pro just like the Mini did with the iPad 4. Therefore, I can see this going 1 of 2 ways:

1: The iPad Air 3 launches early next year (maybe at the March event along with the rumored Apple Watch 2 and rumored redesigned Macbook Pro lineup). This gives the iPad Pro a little bit of time on the market without having to compete with its smaller sibling. IMO this is the better option.

2: The iPad Air 3 launches in September (along with the iPhone 7, and Pro 2). This would give the iPad Pro an entire year without any distraction. However, it also leaves a wide gap in the market for competitors (like Samsung and Microsoft) who will be launching new tablets in the 10" size during that time period. IMO this would be a dumb move for Apple.

At the rate of speed technology moves nowadays, Apple really needs to launch the iPad Air 3 as soon as possible. The iPad Air 2 is still a great tablet and very capable but it is aging.

1) Usual Spec Bump (A9X running at a slower clock than the Pro)
2) Battery Improvement Tech from the Pro (screen timing controller)
3) Apple Pencil Support

Otherwise, the Air 2 is already in a good place for me. But those 3 things feel like they would be doable in a Spring release, but would get a day-one buy from me. The Pencil is the stylus I've been waiting for, and while it isn't perfect, it is certainly competitive with the other market leaders, which is something that's been sorely missing for folks like me who want to ditch paper notebooks and not have it feel like a giant compromise of an experience.

Nice try, but any iPad air 3 will come in Sept, not March.

Never know - iPad used to be a first half of year thing and it's possible they want to separate things a bit more now that there are so many products & lines. It's a lot to try and do all around similar Fall launch dates.

I hear what your saying and agree for the most. But remember the Air2 was up until a few weeks ago apples top tier tablet. I wouldnt say its ageing at little over 1 year since release, and still claims top dollar on apple.com with no reduction on original cost as yet.
I have had mine since release and just purchased another last month for sons birthday, to think of it as aged is disheartning.

IMO The annual cycle of ipads is getting OTT. I would love to have a new ipad every year but Many just cant afford apples premium charges for a relatively mundane boost in spec.
A september/october release sounds about right and let them concentrate on the pro for now, their lineup is already over saturated

There's absolutely no reason to expect otherwise.

The fact they didn't update it this October despite it being their flagship (or bestselling iPad) would indicate otherwise... There are so many people who will never want the extra bulk and expense of an iPad Pro thus there is still a huge market for the Air.
