It’s probably more efficient from an economical perspective than having a trained technician at each store.
And I am sure that the Apple repair depot will take those apart, at some central location(s)
or they will be sold as refurbished on the Apple web site.
 
That is because Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers still replace the entire iPad when a customer needs a new battery. The new pull tabs really only benefit third-party repair shops and customers who attempt do-it-yourself repairs. My understanding based on iFixit's teardowns over the years is that iPads are difficult to repair because they contain large amounts of adhesive everywhere.
Yes, it's true. I think Apple should go to a system where users might, if they want, pay for AppleCare. I've always found it solid. But you should be able to give some money to small business, which Apple should work with. Invest in your neighborhood. Keep building the chip civilization.
