Agree with Thao about the ipad air, if you're getting anything other than the 64gb version, go for the 11 inch ipad pro.

The 256gb version doesn't make sense price wise. Apple how could you put 64gb as base storage in 2022? This simply defies logical thinking.

It's not a good option for anyone -At $599, It's too expensive to be a true entry-level device for the casual user, and lacks too many features to be impressive by comparison to a $200 more 11" M1 iPad Pro.

Apple almost always has a "middle step" on its product "ladder". iPad Air is the middle step.

-You should get the 256GB iPad 9th Gen or the 128GB 11" M1 iPad Pro. Both 64GB and 256GB iPad Air is a terrible middle option, and it's just there to make you fully grasp how inexpensive iPad 9th Gen is, by comparison, and how much more you get with iPad Pro for just $200 more.

Neither specs that really compete with iPads Pro, nor a price that's competitive with iPads Pro or 9th Gen.

Lol at all these tech nerds talking about $200 as if it’s nothing. And all for a bunch of niche features that most people couldn’t care less about. LiDAR and a wide angle lens are mostly pointless on a tablet.

The air has all the best features of the pro for $200 less. That’s why it sells. Imagine the look any normal person would give you when you tell them they should spend $200 more to get LiDAR, a triple lens camera, and a marginally better refresh rate on their web surfing and movie watching device.

most likely, corporate and firms will buy the bare minimum for their staffs as usual, my old firm had regular ipad for the longest time before jumping to the 4th gen air. however my comment was meant for personal use, in which cause 64gb is rarely enough for most user case, and by the time they jump to the only upgrade option, the pro makes more sense.
What do I need 256gb for? I have all my music on Apple Music and all my photos in iCloud. I want storage on my workhorse laptop and my phone that’s always on me. My iPad is a media consumption device and is always connected to the internet. I’d be fine with 32gb as will the majority of people. That’s why it’ll sell the most.

I don’t think Apple put the M1 in the Air for no good reason. They tend to lay down a foundation before unleashing broad functionality. I still think the power has something to do with future VR/AR hardware.

Aside from this, the choice isn’t between an iPad or Mac — I have both, because I prefer one over the other for certain tasks. Different experiences.

I just think is not worth. Because the OS is intentionally tuned down. For a little more you get a real computer with truly capabilities. One day, if they can be macbook air substitutes, then it would be useful. For now, they are really just expensive tablets.

with things like apple arcade, having more storage is something nice.

lets be honest really no one is going to go for the base 64gb, after system allocations and what not you be left with not much storage.

at 700 price point you might as well pony up 50 bucks and get the pro.
I bought the 64 GB version 🤷‍♂️
On my current iPad (also 64 GB) I have a total of 24 GB used. That includes system and “other”, some games (most of which I no longer play but haven’t felt the need to remove) and a number of apps I use on a daily basis as well as the data I produce in said apps.

Sure, 128 GB would have been nice but 64 GB are no deal breaker for me - especially since most of the stuff I create on the iPad is stored in the cloud, anyway.

Yes and outside the US, its even more. So here in the UK its equivalent to $236 (£180) difference between base M1 Air and base Pro 11. There are also many people who have an upper limit as to how much they are prepared to spend on a tablet. Like someone else said on this thread, with the Pro models you are stepping into Macbook Air territory which really takes advantage of the M1 chips creative power.

But the more options, the better, then everyone can buy what they wish. What annoys me are the comments on MR from some people who say the Air is an ‘oddball’ in the line up, yet it sells significantly more units than the Pro models. In reality the 64gb M1 Air will sell like hot cakes, they are already selling out on early discount deals.

if you're fine with paying 600 bucks for a measly 54gb after system OS then all the power to you 😂

Interesting change on the back of the iPad. "iPad Air" instead of just iPad. The new iPad Pro will follow...

its not 200 its 50 bucks difference, 64gb is too little, 128gb is the sweet spot.

quad speakers is night and day difference from your basic air speaker on the air. that marginally better refresh rate saves battery by dialing down to 30hz to match the video.

Nope. Try again. It’s $50 from the 256gb version. $200 from the 64gb.

Don’t need speakers on a device I use with headphones. Don’t need better battery. Already get 10+ hours.

don't need to, you missed my original point. please go back and re-read.

You’re assuming that the 64gb is worthless. It’s not. It will be the best selling air. It’s $200 cheaper than the pro.

cool, if it fits your need. but for millions of others? if the ipad is their main device? no chance in hell.

Tell that to the millions of buyers.

I think is aimed more towards people who like fun colors over function and some people are fine with 64 GB. I have to say that I was tempted when it first came out simply because it was green. I also think that Apple is planning to raise the price on the pro models, especially if they update the screen technology like the rumors are saying.
It will make more sense if the 11” pro costs more. Right now it’s really hard to see why you’d go for the air over the 11” pro, unless you’re ok with 64 GB (which I definitely am not).
