Apple's inventory of iPad Air and MacBook Air models is running low at its retail stores, indicating that refreshes for the devices are likely just around the corner.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that Apple's stock of both products is "dwindling," as the company gears up to launch new updates. Apple is expected to launch a MacBook Air with its faster M4 chip, along with updated iPad Air models during the first half of 2025.

Some rumors have suggested the iPad Air will have the M3 chip that's a step behind the M4 in the iPad Pro, but Gurman said in January that Apple could opt for the M4 instead. A leaker who has provided reliable information in the past also said in January that the iPad Air 7 will use the M3 chip, not the M4 chip. No other major hardware or design changes are expected.

Apple is also developing a new version of the Magic Keyboard for the iPad Air. It will not have an aluminum top case like the iPad Pro, but it could have a function row of keys and some other features from the iPad Pro Magic Keyboard.

Apple is also believed to be working on a new 11th-generation entry-level iPad. Gurman has said Apple will use the A17 Pro chip – the same one that's in the iPhone 15 Pro models and the iPad mini 7. The A17 Pro chip supports Apple Intelligence, so presumably that means the new iPad will come with at least 8GB of RAM, which is the minimum requirement for Apple's suite of AI features.

Gurman's inventory stock check was mentioned in a report claiming that Apple could announce the new iPhone SE 4 as soon as next week via a press release, with a launch to follow later in February. Gurman suggests that Apple will unveil its new low-cost iPhone the same time as the new PowerBeats Pro 2 earbuds, which Apple plans to unveil as soon as February 11. However, he also said the new MacBook Air and iPads are "coming soon," suggesting they are likely to arrive later in the spring.

If they put an A17 Pro and 8GB of RAM in the 11th Gen (and don't jack up the price) I might consider one as a complement to my Mini 7 for those times when I'd like just a bit more real estate on my iPad.
Honestly I have iPad Air m2 and iPad mini 6 and I am happy. Ok the mini 6 doesn’t have AI but I won’t upgrade for that.

M4 Macbook air 16gb Ram $1099
Crazy performance/build/price ratio
Agreed, but if it comes with just 256GB of base storage, a minimum of 1 upgrade will be needed for many people. I, myself, would like to have at least 1TB so that ups the price to… $1500. And that’s with the minimum of 16GB of RAM. If I want to have a bit of memory headroom or future proof it going 24GB, that brings us to $1700, close to 1800€. It’s a lot of money.

So, as usual, this machine is worth it especially for those who don’t need more than the base storage/memory. Sad.

I am thinking to buy iPad Air M2 13". Do you think I should way if anything new comes now?

even so that 8 cores cpu are far ahead of anything on the market at this price
Apple still has the best "core"design/architecture in industry
Yeah I agree, but this means MacBook Pro has a good advantage : 10 cores !

still feel the macbook air m4 is not coming till early march
around the same time frame as last year

I don’t believe the iPad Air will get the M4 but the M3. An M4 iPad Air would be kind of a big deal, IMO. Why would anyone buy a Pro if they can get the Air with the same performance? Yeah, the Pro has some other upgrades but the Air is more than competent for the vast majority of users. M4 would just eat into sales of the Pro.

I’ve just checked the us store and a lot of the airs are showing as in stock?

Could be announced next week but available to buy early March. It’s not like the good old days when Steve would announce something and you knew it would be in your local Apple Store the next day. Now they seem to build in an automatic delay.

They’re already making the m5 chips. How long they gonna wait for a m4 MacBook Air.

last year they were announced and available in the same week

@MacRumors "Later in spring" doesn't make sense if stock is low and they are coming soon. Spring starts March 20th. I am thinking next week is a week of announcements. iPhone SE 4, Powerbeats 2, MacBook Air and iPad Air.

Remember there was a rumour a few months ago that Apple was working on putting 90hz displays in the new Airs. Guessing it’s wishing thinking that will be implemented in these new models.
