I'm completely speechless. You always hear those people say "I broke my phone on CARPET" and you just smile and say "yeah" because you know thats probably not what happened. Reality just kicked my ass.

Literally I was walking from my couch to put my iPad and phone on my desk, and I tripped now my arm was already going forwards and I was leaning down at that point so my phone fell face-up onto carpet, then my iPad fell about 8 inches on top of my phone. Both are now cracked.

My phone is a HTC one. I'm sorry if this is considered spam to you but I'm just completely flabbergasted that this could have happened.

^ iPad literally fell from where the power strip is onto the phone. I'm still completely shocked.

Sorry that happened… The iPad Air screen definitely doesn't feel as strong as the previous generation iPad.

The first thing I though too :/ although if it's purely the glass on the iPad then I doubt it would have also cracked my phone

That is really no fun at all. I personally have never cracked a phone or a tablet, but I have cracked a laptop screen. I guess it's just hit-and-miss with devices. I've dropped my iPhone numerous times and even thrown it and it still has no cracks in the screen.

I have an HP netbook that has a cracked screen. It's fallen down stairs, over an indoor ledge and it's been stepped on without the screen cracking. Then, one time, I dropped it by accident once on the carpet (About a 2 foot drop from a small coffee table) while it was closed, and I opened it, the screen was cracked. I guess you can say "it just happens".

Something tough will never look as pretty as Apple products. And vise versa.
You want tough, you'll have to go with something thick and ugly looking. But it's unbreakable.

As long as Johnny Ive in command of design department, pretty-looking will be #1 priority above all else. So expect things like this happen to their products for a loooong time, especially if you're really into Apple ecosystem.

Look at your HTC for trying to look like Apple. :D

That is one hell of a double whammy. Sorry to see this. But on the bright side at least you have an excuse to get an iohone now. :)

Actually I'm switching to t-mobile on Monday, going to get the Xperia Z1S, apples gonna have to push that display bigger if they want me back :p (switched when the 5S came out)

I do have a 5'th gen iPod touch though for when I need something that's ios exclusive and I don't have my ipad with me.

It seems apple went with a thinner glass which makes the air a bit more fragile. I've seen more of these types of threads and issues on the interwebs then before.

Sorry to see this happen OP :(

Phone makers gives us what we want and their devices are thinner and lighter.

This glass that is supposed to be hard enough to not scratch WILL BE BRITTLE.

If you purchased your iPad Air with a credit card it may be covered by their 90 day accidental damage warranty. American Express, Visa Signature and others cover your purchase with 90 days of accidental damage, theft and extend the warranty by a year.

i can see that happening- sometimes the tiniest little mistakes and BOOM-your ipad breaks- we were at walmart and the youngest was in the shopping cart... I look away for one second and he puts a huge dent in it because he was playing the starwars lightsaber app on it...i guess that was a huge mistake.

hopefully you'll invest in cases the next time around. it's so worth it. i have an otter box defender on my iPhone and just a smart case on iPad. both work great

Sorry, but this is possible

Two glass objects + No case + forward motion + colliding with each other = Breakage

Hope you have Apple Care + for the iPad

Sadly I don't have AppleCare+ :(

I was still able to come relatively close to what the cost of it would be though. Sold my cracked ipad for $410 bought new ipad air 32Gb for $570

That's like $20 more than it would have been if I had AppleCare+?

And it's over $120 cheaper than it would have been to pay apple to trade me for a refurbished one. ($299 glass replacement cost from apple)

+ I do have a Smart Cover to protect the screen! sadly when I tripped when I attempted to regain control of the ipad I grabbed the Smart Cover and it pulled off.

I'm switching to tmobile and will be getting an Xperia Z1S. I do recommend the HTC though, I switched from an iPhone 5 and I was very pleased with it.
