Hello
I just bought an Ipad on Ebay but I did not pay it yet.
Something is odd with the box, the picture of the Ipad Air is white (the background), usually it is kind of blue.
Does it seems legit to you ? Might be counterfeit ?

I found another one on ebay
http://www.ebay.fr/itm/Apple-Ipad-A...1801311311&clk_rvr_id=796548940086&rmvSB=true

Thx

Hey,
It does look a bit weird I mean the box looks like the real thing but on all boxes I have seen the background of the iPad is blue like you said, not white. What about the seller, how is his rating , is he new or established etc.
Its a hassle to deal with frauds on eBay, I nearly lost 1000£+ because I got scammed when I tried to sell my MacBook Pro. I would be cautious.

Update: I googled a bit and couldn't find one picture like this one, I maybe thought boxes in France look slightly different. This is highly suspicious so I would watch out.

Yep, I tried to find pictures as well, but none.
I'm gonna cancel the deal, and go to an Apple Store.
Thank again

Yes but it is always on ebay.
I should be able to find those on google image for exemple.

Edit: Oh! You meant the wallpaper of the iPad on the box! I also only find that particular design in eBay offers, but that's probably because people use stock photos or snatch them from other offers. If it has eBay buyer protection, it's probably safe enough. The seller does have 100% feedback.

I've always wondered speaking of iPad boxes...

There is a barcode on the lid side of the box, inside. Are these barcodes unique per device, per model, per capacity, or what? Because the lids don't have specs, so you think they would be the same for all iPads in that color, but does that barcode have specific information I wonder?

It might help potential buyers if we knew this and could decipher it to know if a box was mis matched or whatnot.

I believe this is probably an ipad air that ships with ios 8 rather than 7.

If you look carefull at the displays, you can see the extra two icons from ios 8 on bottom row, matching the images from apple: http://cdn.macrumors.com/article-new/2014/10/ipad_air_2_mini_3boxes.jpg?retina

Good catch - Apple has updated their packaging after an iOS update before - it could be the case here. It's just that Google searches for "iPad Air box" (or similarly worded) are most likely to return pictures from right when the Air first shipped. So you are unlikely to see results for the updated box.

Of course, that's just a theory.

That is exactly what I think, and most product pages on stores do not show the actual box, only device.. and likely wouldn't update anyway.

Except on ebay, where people are taking pictures of the actual product they have in hand to sell there and then.

I don't think so.
There would be at least 1 article or 1 picture that shows the new packaging, this is Google we are talking about. Why would Apple change the packaging on a 1.5 year old device. I still think it's suspicious especially because there is literally zero info about it on Google.

I wonder what happens if you call Apple and show them the pic :D

Looking about, I found an ebay auction for an ipad mini showing both front and back of box, with the same white screen shown. Silver model.

from the serial number on back of the box, it was made in december 2014. ie, iOS 8.

I'm pretty sure my theory is right at this point.

Why would Apple change the packaging on a 1.5 year old device.

Because they've done it before, and because they don't want the box art to show something that is not inside the box?

Again only on eBay not one picture somewhere else.
I have seen some unboxing videos from 2015 and they all had the same blue homescreen. The only difference between the box art is the White wallpaper so how does that make it different to what's inside?
Are you telling me Apple therefore also changed all the other packaging of old devices they still sell like iPhone 5c, 5s, iPad 4, ipad 2, iPad mini 1st and 2nd gen? I don't think so therefore this seems fishy to me, especially because it's ebay.

For me, the key is the way that the clear overwrap is constructed.

I'm assuming that the box corners are harder to do the way that they look on that box?

But ebay being ebay, you are right to be suspicious. Google would likely have the 'new boxes' already. It's is google after all...

And on edit it's pretty meaningless to go by the pictures anyway, because who knows what you are going to get when it, IF it, arrives...

It's like online dating. They never look like they do in the picture...:eek::eek:

They did it to the iPad mini when iOS 7 came out. They've done it with other devices, too. It's hard to see, but here they are:

Look at the camera icon on each for the easiest difference.

It's not the camera that's the easiest to spot, have you noticed the orange and red music app? LOL
The top ones are clearly ios 6 and the bottom one is ios 7. They tweaked the box when iOS 7 was released because it was a massive redesign therefore they sort of had to change the packaging. However I doubt they do this every time for old devices, it was just that year with iOS 7.
I have not seen 1 single iPad air box where the wallpaper is white, no article, no picture, no evidence whatsoever on Google. It's only of course on ebay which I find highly suspicious. Thats all.

Yeah, it looks a little suspicious but it's up to you. Personally I wouldn't take the risk.

Actually I took the risk (I spoke with the seller)
301 euros for a brand new Ipad Air instead of 400 euros.
It is perfectly legit, the serial match with the box, and the back of the device.
Thx for the replies, and "sorry for my english"

That's cool, post some pictures once you got it, I'm quite curious.

Now I need a case !
