The mini with retina is very appealing now, but I still prefer the larger screen. It with be iPad Air for me. I'm excited.

But consider the Nexus 7 2013 model.. At 290 grams and has equally a 1920x1200 res LCD. It's just not as thin as the retina-Mini. I just fail to see why Apple couldn't get this done.

I see your point. I'm not sure what else is involved, battery and materials could be heavier.

I suspect that they'll apply the same weight saving techniques on the next design. The 1st gen mini was so pleasantly light to begin with, it can probably afford a few more grams. We'll see!

Now I'm torn, only reason I want to get iPad Mini 2 is because I thought iPad will still come out heavy when it comes to its weight but now with the iPad Air, don't know what to pick? What do you think?

It's a no brainer for me. iPad 5. The iPad mini is too close to an iPhone, relatively close. With the same A7 processor, go big, unless size matters.

Disappointed

I am an iPad (3rd gen.) owner. Sincerely, I expected a lot more from Apple for his new iPad Air. No camera improvements? Same iPhone chip?

Before the keynote I was strongly convinced on making the leap and buying the new 9.7" model. I am a bit disappointed now. The new iPad mini with Retina Display is actually more appealing: same specs of the bigger brother and 100€ (I am Italian :)) less expensive, but I'm afraid of abandoning the 9.7" display for the 7.9" one. Any advice for me? Thank you. :(

I'm now torn. iPad Air, nice full screen for books and mags...or iPad Mini w/ Retina, same experience, better pixel density and $100 saved in my pocket!

I'm exactly the same! I figure I'll just wait until they're actually released, mess about with both of them in store and see which I prefer in person.

I was really gung ho in getting the new ipad 5 with 128 GB, but now seeing that the iPad 2 retina has the same exact specs with a higher PPI and 128GB, I'm going for that one! Thanks to Apple for helping me make up my mind! I really thought the iPad 5 was going to be more premium.

I'm exactly in your same dilemma. I was all ready to put cash down for the 5 because 1) I missed the larger screen 2) better processor and 3) 128GB storage, but now the mini gets all of the above but change up #1 for higher PPI.

I always consider portability as a plus, and the mini of course will always win this one, no matter how thinner and lighter the Air can get due to the nature of it's screen size.

If the A7 and RAM is exactly the same between both, the only thing at this point I need to consider is screen size vs PPI.

So confused.....:(

Selling 64gb ipad 4 for $400 and buying ipad mini 2 64gb. This is the perfect ipad for me finally!

The retina mini has a whopping 50% more pixels, is 20% thinner, has 1+ hour better battery life, and has a screen size over 50% larger. Yet it's the same height, is only 2 cm wider, and weighs only 41 grams more -- the weight of less than 3 tablespoons of water. Not a bad trade-off...

I love the size of the mini, but alas, I need reading glasses so I'm afraid I'll replace my iPad 3 with an Air.

Check your math, the iPad retinas are definitely not 50% more pixels but I get your point.

What about the incredible deal on the iPad 2 !? If you wouldv'e included this in your poll, it would really skew the results. Can't wait to get that deal. They should be available soon, right?

waiting for them to hopefully come in stores for demo before I decide. I called yesterday and the stores doesn't have them yet. Will check again later today after work.
