Finally got my Air. It reminds me a lot of the Mini. It sounds kind of stupid, but you really do get the feeling that it is a bigger Mini more so than a smaller iPad. The only advantage of the Mini I can see is that you can maybe fit it in a jacket pocket. Beyond that I can't see much of a reason to opt for a smaller device, personally.

What I would like to know is if both the mini Retina and the Air uses the same chip architecture and operating system, and both have the same 1 gb of RAM, would the mini Retina have memory problems similar to the Air as well?
Yes, it would.

For an extra 100 bucks in my pocket!

No really- it matters to some people.

I agree...the Air suits my needs quite well and I like having the extra screen size over the Mini.

I voted for the retina mini. I own a mini now and will likely own a mini for the rest of my iPad life.

I'm a petite woman, so no matter the specs, the mini just feels 100x better to me. My hand can grip across the entire back to hold. While some have said they can hold the Air all night with one hand (compared to older generation iPads), I tried holding the Air in one hand at the Apple Store and my hand is too small and my arm got tired after about 2 minutes.

Plus, I can fit the mini in my purse. I carry mine everywhere I go. I can't wait!!

No doubt about it but I decided the lighter retina mini is going to be a better fit for me so returned my Air today. I never once considered a mini so coming to this conclusion has me a bit gobsmacked.

I spent about 30 minutes playing with a mini today, testing out its readability since I'll be using it as an e-reader too. I thought the text would be too small without zooming but even after surfing the web, looking at email and messages, I found it was not a problem. Same with viewing photos and video since one of my hobbies is photography. I really thought the smaller screen would bother me, but it did not.

I think it comes down to each person's plan for usage & what works best for them. For me, when I want a bigger screen, I'll use my MBP. But for lightness & portability and discovering I can read the smaller screen just fine, the retina mini will be a better fit for my needs. I also like that it's somewhere in the middle size-wise to my MBP and iPhone 5, affording me a mid-size option for usage.

Totally with you on this one - returned my Air and will go with my Macbook Air 13" and iPad Mini/iPhone 5s combo.

ipad mini (r) 32gb and as soon as possible

the air size is just too much for me
i dont feel comfortable with the normal sized ipad while in a bus-train-plane-airport-trainstation (taking pics is the cherry on the cake)
in bed, in a car, on a sofa etc

while the iphone is just too complicately small (whatever it means)

that 7.9 is just very close to my perfection.

Going with the Retina Mini.

Tried them both (iPad Air and 1st gen Mini) in the store for quite a while and have played with older generation iPads that friends have owned. Definitely enjoy the size of the mini much more.

I think it may be ipad air for me

I have had all iPads big and small. When the mini came out I thought it was the perfect device. But what I realized is that my consumption and productivity completely changed when I got the mini. With a full size ipad I would travel with just the ipad. But when I got the mini I found myself traveling with my macbook and the ipad. I started to just use he ipad mini to read at night. But would not use it for anything else. Now that I got the air I find myself using it instead of my laptop. I don't know if it's because it's new and shiny or but it seems to be my preferred way to browse the internet. And I am able. To touch type on it. Including this post :D

It's going to be the iPad mini 2 for me. It's easier to handle while lying down for extended periods. Same power as the air but smaller screen.

Whilst I think the Air is an incredible iPad; I think I'll be trying out the retina iPad Mini. Between having a 2011 13in MBA and an iPhone 5S, the Mini seems to fit quite well in the middle :)

I own an ipad 4 and iphone 5.

The ipad 4 (i use otterbox defender on it) is too heavy for me in some situations.

Im going with the ipad retina mini this year and skipping the air and 5s.

I hope for a 13" (16:10 maybe) ipad next year to replace my ipad 4.

My favorite setup would be the iphone 6 (no need for bigger screen) the ipad retina mini in my backpack and a 13 inch ipad for use at home...and an Iwatch (yes I still wear a watch)

Cant wait to see what apple will come up with in iphone 6 and air 2014. Both products are for me now perfect. But would like frontfacing real stereo speakers on the 2014 air.

Most I really think there is a marked for a 13" ipad...and the watch too:) the gadget junkie I am.
