Again, read the fine print. Only the Pros were eligible for this promotion anyway. Even if the Air 4 had come out in September you wouldn’t have gotten any AirPods with it, so that has nothing to do with the release date.
Ah ok, I guess the only discount that might expire is on the AppleCare+ for it. Looks like students will get $50 off even post-promo.

I agree. Infuriating, really. Because of COVID, you would think Apple would have ramped up iPad production/supply chain/consumer-retail value chain, etc. They've had 1/2 the year. iPads of all stripes have been sold out for weeks, and my kids are suffering in school without a device. If sales are down, they have themselves to blame. It's not like there wasn't a demand for the things.
Wow...You do realize there are kids who don't have any computers or access to the Internet, food, basic housing, school, and THIS infuriates you???

The Education deal with free AirPods w/ iPad models ends on the 12th, they’re waiting to make them orderable after that. Which sucks for us college students who want to get that deal on the iPad Air.
I guess you missed the note that the iPad Air 4 was not eligible for the student airpod deal anyway. They said this since shortly after the keynote.

A lot of people take a while to think, choose model, decide to buy, justify purchase etc. This way, they’ve had a chance to do that since the announcement and resulting slew of preview videos, marketing webpages and email by Apple, social media posts and such.

And then, in November probably again with the Mac (and iPad Pro?).

True but the opposite is also true. After the keynote. I was ready to buy. Done deal. But after learning about the speakers. The processor not being that much letter than the 12z in the pros, the need for a 2nd gen pencil...

I talked myself OUT of it.

which may help Apple out anyway, because I may give the 12.9 pro a shot. But now is the waiting game for the next model. If it doesn’t come til June, I’d buy now. If it’s released in November, Id buy then. But not knowing - if I wait til November and it’s not released, I may feel I need to wait til the spring... First world problems...

But the fine print was already updated at least once. When Air 3 was still sold, the document mentioned both iPad Pro and Air eligible for promo and when Air 3 was EOL when Air 4 was introduced the document mentioned only iPad Pro eligible. So as it says bold in the end of that fine print, they reserve right to change without notice terms and conditions.
Just saying that in legal terms they could do it if they wanted but I'm not sure if they have already stated somewhere Air 4 is not going to be included, so if they did then it will not be included.

Of course they could have it apply to any product they want. My point is that many people mistakenly assumed that the Air 4 couldn’t come out before the promotion ends because then they’d be obliged to honour the promotion for it, but that was never true. It always had the caveat of “eligible” iPads, and they decide what’s “eligible”.

Yeah, exactly what I essentially tried to say too. :)

Right. We’re basically saying the same thing. It’s Apple’s promotion, so they can do what they want. No need to be strategic about release dates just for that. If they don’t want it to apply to a product then it doesn’t, and vice versa.

Correct. Actual release date has nothing to do with this. The fine print clearly state they can do as they please at anytime. :)

This is a site dedicated to sharing insights and opinions as they relate to a premium product. Mining my post for fresh outrage - on the topic of iPads - is ill-placed at best. You have no idea who you are speaking to about hardship, just as I have zero information about your circumstances. Where is your focus and your decency?

i must be the only one who thinks that is a really dumb strategy to release them on the same day as iphone... most people are going to go for the phone... not both... why could they just not start selling these a week ago, building up even more hype??
