All iPads Ipad air smart cover not attaching to screen?

The smart cover for my ipad air locks the screen when it's placed on it, but it doesn't stay attached to the screen and when you turn it over it hangs off.

Is it supposed to stay attached to the screen, or is this normal?

Mine does the same. The hinge magnet is strong but the magnets that hold the flap down not so much.

That's normal. It's not designed to stay attached to the screen.
