From pure color preference, I prefer black. But I chose to have white iPhone and iPad because it's just more practical color for me - black bezels just SCREAM, "look at all the smudges on me, look at all these thick bodily oils and germs!!!" On white bezels, you can't see smudges AT ALL. Same with car color: I chose white as more practical - less heating in the sun and dust is less visible, the car looks cleaner overall (black car looks nice only for a few minutes after the car wash, then you can see every speck of dust on it).

iOS 7 looks better on white devices, take a look at Apple's photos. I'd take the white one.

This was one of the reasons I chose the white Air. That and I had a Nexus7 that was black so I wanted a change. Plus it goes with my white gs3 though in retrospect I probly shoulda gotten the blue one instead.

Maybe its just me, but I find white ipads to be too feminine for males. I could not see a very masculine male owning a white ipad, but I can and do see feminine males using one all the time. It just suits them and their persona. Its too flashy and it just screams "look I have an Apple device." Its not as bad as say a pink ipad, but its not far from it.

It's you quite obviously. I've seen that view shared on this site before but never in day to day life I have to say. I know fellow married straight men like myself who own White iPads and most of our sales team at work are male with the white ipad being very popular. Black and white are neutral colours so trying to associate each to a gender seems odd to me.

I've bought one white apple device....this iPad. I just bought an iPad air and went back to black. To me the screen is more vibrate against the black.

Agreed. I picked up a white one and thought it kind of looked like a toy. Plus I didn't like the white border while on websites. I exchanged for a black and it's more like my MBP.

I like the look of the white myself. Black seems so boring and old. My first ipod and ibook were both white, and I like the lighter "attitude" that the white portrays. But that's just me. Everyone has an opinion, and the only one that matters is yours.

black, regardless if its an ipad, phone, monitor.. i like the bezel seamless.
white just exaggerates the frame, looks like a picture frame.

I love my white iPhone. I am getting ready to purchase an iPad air now though and am unsure if I will like the white as much on a larger device. Decisions, decisions.

To update the thread.. I initially went with a Space Gray iPad air. I wasn't "in love" with it. I then replace my black iPhone 5 with a White/Silver 5S and absolutely loved the color. I decided to then swap my air for the Silver/White version. Best decision ever. Looks clean, sleek and sexy.

I thought the white border was going to bother me when it came to videos and the like, nope. Don't notice it just like the black. I guess it's because I have always had black iPhones? I don't know. I do know the White/Silver is slick as hell and love it.

Male who has/had black iPad 1 (no choice) and white iPad 2,3, & Air. Even with all the fingerprints white just looks cleaner/nicer to me.

Don't get me wrong, I stll have my white MB and like it very much, but there's a reason why my friend Doris calls where I live "Dan's House of Dim". When I went to get a new iPad Air, I went in thinking white and left with black. Here's a couple thoughts:

1) I do not live in an Apple store. I'm the type of guy that thinks a 40 watt bulb could use a dimmer switch. Apple stores are full of white surfaces and brightish lights.

2) I'm getting an Applle case for it. Light blue probably and I thought any of the lighter colored cases created a nicer contrast with the black.

3) A couple people said that they liked reading with a white border. My thinking is that the black border would be easier on the eyes reading in bed. I do buy into the better-for-movies thing, and though I'm unlikely to ever watch a movie, I do stream live pool matches and don't think I'd be as happy with the white.

Hope that helps, but really comes down to who you are.

Please tell me you are joking or under the age of 25. A male with a white iPad is just that..a human being with a white apple device just like a female. Your homophobic comments are immature at best and disturbing.

Don't embarrass yourself anymore. I'm one female who disagrees 100% with you

It must be tough only being able to have black iPads otherwise someone might think you're not super manly.

Go with the Space Gray iPad Air. I also have a Silver iPhone 5S. While white is OK on the phone, black is definitely better for the ipad, plus it's nice have contrast between the two. Also I always put a Gelaskin on my iPad so the color of the back is moot.

Indeed. One of the more stranger posts I have read in recent times and like yourself I can not relate to that logic at all. It is worrying to think there are people out there who label others if they own a white iPad or iPhone. I bought what I liked, not what I thought others would use to judge me. It's a neutral coloured device for goodness sake!

I've got a black iPad 3 and a white iPad Air and can't see how the black is better? It's all personal choice of course, but I suppose I look at the screen rather than the bezel when I'm using them so I don't notice any difference at all.

See?

You really didn't need to ask the general MacRumors readership about a personal preference question on style.

The fact that you returned your initial purchase proves that no one here convinced you to buy the right device for you. Everyone failed, above all: you.

This thread serves as an accurate (if somewhat depressing) example why 99% of the "which ___ should I buy?" discussions are completely pointless.
