One thing about having a ipad and macbook air is you can extend the display onto the ipad using Air Display.

I held off getting an ipad until now, using an 11 MBA, thinking an ipad was an unnecessary luxury. Now I've used it since Saturday the benefits are huge, not least that I use it anywhere and don't worry about spilling tea on it. It's noticeably lighter to carry and much smoother scrolling than the MBA in Safari.

just lightly hitting links and zooming in is a pleasure, and I've had iOS since the first iPod touch. The ipad is just a joy to use. It has plenty to offer too as far as the apps I use.

The only downside has been calling my MBA a MacBook Air Pad.

A MacBook air simply has the capability to do more in the same amount of time. It isn't so much of a linear experience, and as such, it all comes down to needs of the user.

I have both, and I only use my iPad for casual stuff, or anything that doesn't require multi tasking. I can't stand trying to manage several Internet tabs with word processing apps, going back and forth, having some web pages not work properly, etc. a Bluetooth keyboard does help wonders with the iPad though. Even YouTube isn't as enjoyable for me because it's so linear. I like to browse in a tree fashion... Always branching out several tabs from one page, closing a few, etc.

This is pretty much exactly me right here. I think thats why i will trade the Air for the Retinia Mini.

Thanks again everyone for your input.

If there was an easy way to share your iPhoto library to your iPad I'd be all over the thing, but as it is you only get whats in your photo stream, which is quite disappointing.

Of course they're is an easy solution to share your iPhoto library--been there since day one, called syncing your iPad with your computer. Just check the box under the Photos option when you're iPad is connected to iTunes and you're done.

Oh? How does that work? I knew it worked with apple TV... Didn't know you could go right from a laptop to a iPad.

Air Display app for ipad. Run the app and install the drivers on the laptop/desktop and they connect and you have a additional monitor. Have to be on the same network. Just google Air Display and check them out.

Yeah..I JUST got an ipad FRIDAY, excuse me for not being an expert. I knew you could sync libraries if you connect your ipod to your computer, but I didn't know if there was a wireless way to keep it synced to the ipad...

Need an ipad if you have a laptop ... no.

But many people who have both end up using the ipad the majority of the time.

I know where the op is coming from. I too use both. I love the sharper screen on the iPad but miss the keyboard when using it. I use the iPad most for surfing but when I want to type much I switch to my MBA or Mac desktop.

At the current state of iPad and other tablet, it can only compliment laptop. It's definitely not a laptop replacement.

This past week I was in a situation where I used both the MBA (first-gen) and two iPads (iPad 3, iPad Mini). I used the iPads during the day when I could quickly pick up an iPad and look at forum postings or my email, and then in the evenings when I had time to myself and for which there was the expectation that I would not be interrupted I used the MBA. Worked a treat for me. During the day I might have been on the iPad perusing threads on a forum when suddenly I was interrupted by someone needing something, so I'd jump right up, set the iPad aside, and do whatever was necessary. LOVE the iPad for that!

For me, the iPad and also the MBA (13" original generation) works well. For others it may not.
