Come on, $399 for 3 years old thing is absurd, no mention soon will be obsolete iPad mini selling for $30 less than launch price.

Yeah, so absurd that they are still selling tons of them.

If you don't like Apple's prices, I have a recommendation. Don't buy them.

I wouldn't buy two or three or even one year old tech when new tech is available, which is what I recommended the OP do.

For some reason you seem to feel the need to interject your Apple bashing comments that have nothing to do with this thread's topic.

Can you try to stay on topic? If you want to lament Apple pricing, start another thread.

If i don't like Apple's price, I know where I buy them. I don't think the new iPad mini and iPad Air are overpriced. But I do think selling $400 iPad 2 and iPad mini 1 for $299 at this time is pure rip off.

And I don't know where you get the information about Apple selling tons of iPad 2 at this time of year, because I went to Apple store several times for around 3 hours at local shopping mall waiting friends shopping for their stuff, I found no one buy iPad 2.... and relative small amount of people went for iPad mini.

And no, buying old technology is still a good option if things priced right. I would perfectly happy my grandmother or my uncle for iPad mini 1 when priced is right ($250 would be perfect price for iPad mini 1). Always recommending new technology just because it is new is not smart thing to do.

I get it from factual sources, not like you who gets it from your own personal experience at one Apple store.

How does 22% of iPad sales in September? Is that "tons" enough for you?

Please, stop embarrassing yourself.

LOL...you should emberassimg yourself... Because I never said Apple isn't selling tons of iPad...I just implying I do not see many people buying iPad 2 currently. You really should improve your reading skills.

The demand went down 13%...that is before iPad Air and iPad mini actually went on sale. What percentage of iPad 2 will account is unknown. Second: the article also mentioned: but it appears there is still more than enough demand for a cheaper, full-size iPad, particularly for the education sector. You have no idea how many percent of this 22% account of education sector. Because education sectors tends to buy a lot at once. Of you looking down at comment section, large amount of iPad 2 went to education sector. And we are talking about consumer sector. Third: with iPad mini second generation selling at $299, there is little reason for consumer buying iPad 2 at this moment of time. Fourth: You need award that the conversion is taking place right now. When you looking at the data, you should look for data at this moment, not data from 3 months ago.

Keep trying.
I got lucky and only had to exchange once.
My first Air bought on day of release had a yellow issue.
Returned it once. The replacement is perfect.

But. But. Nobody bought it in the store.

By the way how is that dell venue treating you. I'm getting one soon my cousin picked one up for me from micro center open box for 195 after tax can't beat that.

Coming from an iPad3, I am quite happy with my new iPad Air. I had a few crashes on the first day; but since then, it has performed flawlessly.

Yea well...Im not a fan of old technology either....but I dont see the ipad 4 as old yet. Ipad 2 is old for me I wouldnt get it even if they lowered the price to 100 bucks.

OP it might be an idea to just wait a couple of months and then buy another iPad Air in hopes the display quality issues have been solved, if you think most Airs have issues at this time.

You're right but I would so love to get one now. If I wait a few months then I'll be thinking I should just wait a few months more for the next generation air and then that could have a problem...and it would just go on.

That is precisely why I was toying with the idea of refurb IP4...it's not ideal, not a huge compromise and it will cost appreciably less.

I went to a Best Buy subsidiary a few hours ago to check their display iPad Air, it had better color than mine (no green face issue) but obvious book spine defect (lower brightness along left edge in portrait orientation). Even the salesman could see the book spine defect when I pointed it out, but like most people he didn't really notice earlier. Will check a couple of other stores tomorrow.

My Air has just a little bit of book spine defect and I wouldn't return it for that, but the green overcast is more of a concern.

You really should improve your spelling skills.

I'm not in agreement with any of the views MisakixMikasa is expressing, but when being critical of spelling or language in posts we need to keep in mind that for many members here, English is not their first language.

You really should improve your spelling skills.

Some people just try to get their point across, and other people just like to point out other peoples short comings, spelling, grammar. It makes them feel superior and they like to point it out. Other people just like to ramble on and try to convince others that they are smarter.

There was a chart posted recently that showed something like 20%+ of ipad sales were still iPad2.

Also its wrong to call it a 3 year old thing - its probably been built just as recently as the ipad air, just based on an older design. Many/most car companies do this.

Hmmm...it's all relative innit?

iPad 4 is only old tech, 'heavy' and less advanced after ipad air has been revealed.

Taken on its own merit, it seems to be a formidable machine...and it's but a year old. The 64 bit thing...I don't see many apps that have it yet...I'm mainly going to be reading mags and books on the thing, so I wonder if I'll be missing much.

I wanted the air because I was keen on the lightness and speed...but if Im lucky to get a refurb running ios6, I would not upgrade.

In any case, a friend has an ipad4 and it runs really fast on ios7.
In my opinion, the only reason to buy an iPad 4 is to get one with iOS 6... which is highly unlikely at this point in time.

It's nice to hear that there are iPads running iOS 7 that are running well.

My iPad 4 is still on iOS 6.1.3 and it is the most fluid (responsiveness-wise) of any iPad I've owned.

If I had to buy a new iPad now, I'm not drawn to the iOS 7 experience on iPads so I'd probably wait.

yes it would be great to get an ip4 running ios6...Ive ordered mine (refurb unit) and will see in a couple of days.

But heck, all that it will take to please me is nice evenly tinted screen that leans on the side of cool.

I've already returned an ipad air for a full refund...i am just not up to playing the exchange lottery when the chances of getting an evenly coloured screen seem so random.

Add to that the whole safari crashing debacle, allegedly due to the 1GB ram on 64-bit architecture....and I think this is too much for my nerves to handle.

Seriously considering getting a refurb iPad4 because it is a mature product, the last of its kind in terms of design and i think they really got it right.

The iPad Air by comparison is the first of its kind and can only get better, so maybe it would be wiser to wait for the 2nd or 3rd iteration.

Well, that's my thinking....any critiques?

Pretty silly considering the ipad 4 also had yellow blotches on some screens. I went through 2 myself.

Hi, i'm waiting my package, i ordered yesterday an ipad 4 black from the refurb 16Go.
I'll will get too an ipad AIR for some 250$ from my neighbourhood, i'm considering exchange the ipad 4 and keep ipad AIR but considering the issue with AIR screen and crash, i'll probably sell the AIR and keeping the ipad 4.

Maybe i could sell it 400$ (ipad AIR) and get back some cash

What do you think about keeping ipad 4 ?

well, im an optimist. in any case, i dont see so many complaints about ipad 4 screens as i do abut the air. if it turns out to be a dud, it will be returned for a refund. no sweat.

i have double book spine effect on my rmini and its driving me crazy. slightly darker at the top, slighltly brighter at the bottom - not enough to return though, its my second exchange and much worse compared to my original mini. It would be less noticeable if the bottomw wasnt so much brigher, emphasizing how dark the top is.

It wouldnt be an issue if everything in iOS7 didnt make everything white.

for what its worth, i went into bestbuy yesterday, the mini and air they had on display had worse bookspine, this time tinted blue. They had a ton of samsung, google, amazon and windows tablets and every single one had the issue to varying but noticeable degrees. The samsungs were the worst with blue strips on the sides.

Made me feel better....until i got home and looked at my mini again :(

I'm considering the same thing. It's not really the screen that I'm worried about, it's the seemingly troublesome combination between 1 GB of RAM and a 64-bit processor. Is that the reason for the crashes?

Ended up getting a new iPad 4. It was only about $70 less than the Air retails for here, but that didn't really bother me too much. It shipped with iOS 6.1.3 and a lovely white screen.

Reasons:

- Didn't want to deal with the screen lottery
- Can stick with iOS 6 until the problems with 7 are ironed out
- Potentially more "usable" RAM (64-bit has a larger memory footprint)
- Kinda prefer the more solid and premium feel of the iPad 4

I'm a first time iPad buyer BTW. I'll probably get the Air when it gets a RAM upgrade.

I got the iPad Air with 64GB several weeks ago and I totally love it. I opened in the Apple store and checked the display before accepting it. The staff were very helpful. I've had a 2 and a 3 and this one is fantastic. I read a lot of PDFs and the Air renders them with almost no lag. Much faster than the 3. I'm really happy with the Air.

Update:

My refurb ipad4 arrived today and I got it up and running. Love it....the screen is a perfect white. It runs iOS 6.1.3...I just hope it doesn't sneakily auto-download any updates.

This is what the ipad experience is for me....not paying a premium and then having to justify why the screen is not evenly tinted and being accused of being overly obsessive.

It doesn't hurt that it cost me over $200 less than what I paid for an ipad air with the same capacity.

Over and out.

People on this forum are amazing .... You checked tablets from Apple, Samsung, Google, Amazon .... And all of them had "defective" displays.

Don't you think the "problem" is YOU and not those tablets ? :p
Maybe your expectations are a little bit on the too high side ... ( a kind way to say you are anal OCD :D)

True I'm a bit OCD, but it didn't take much effort to check all these tablets, they're all on display at my local best buy and it took all of 10 mins.

The blue stripes on the samsungs were especially noticeable, OCD or not.

P.s, like many on this forum I don't stake my self worth on the gadgets I have and I could care less if other brand products are flying off the shelves - just increases competition and innovation which is good for us all. I was simply passing along my observations.
