iPad Air's screen will not dim unless a lock/unlock is operated

Hi everyone.

Since the beginning I've noticed that my iPad Air's screen will not dim unless a lock/unlock is operated, although the screen brightness itself does automatically increase in brighter environment.

Is this a hardware or software defect?

thats normal. in google or any other search engine type in iPad Air screen will not dim and their a bunch of threads about it.
