Is what I'm wanting to do possible?

I'm going out of town later in the week. I have an airport express, and where I will be staying has broadband, but not a wireless router, only wired ethernet.

What I would like to do is take my airport express, just plug in their ethernet cable, and use it for my ipad so i don't need to take my 7lb. work laptop.

Is this possible, or would I need my laptop to setup the express? Can I do it from the ipad?

You have to configure it first through ethernet, but I'm not sure if the ethernet at the place you will be staying at has any login info or anything to join the network, so I can't say if their network is plug and play like a home would be.

    Yes, it's possible and easy.

I have done this with laptops for years and now the iPad. It's awesome.

I'm currently doing this at a hotel in Toronto. Set up the airport express before you leave home and you'll be good to go. I'm running 2 ipads and 3 iPhones on my network :)

I did the same with my AE and iPod Touch at Walt Disney World.

Is not easier then just to take a laptop instead of iPad? Looks like a much better solution to me.

    Here are the steps:

    1) Plug in Airport Express
    2) Plug Ethernet into Airport Express
    3) Turn on iPad and go to Safari to accept the terms

    For laptops, the steps are:

    1) plug Ethernet into laptop
    2) wait a minute or two for laptop to boot.
    3) go to web browser and accept the terms

And, the ipad/AE is a lighter and smaller bundle to carry. So how much easier could it be? But to each, their own, I guess.

Works flawlessly once set up using a laptop. Even if there is a sign-in required at your hotel that will just appear in a browser window and there is no need for a laptop. All you are doing with setting up the express is naming your wireless network and setting up your password.
