Is there really a purposes to sync apps to iTunes anymore if you use iCloud for backups?

Does iCloud store the save states for games?

I hate how it takes forever to copy apps from my iPad to my iMac when I sync to itunes. I only sync to iTunes now for music...
What's the point of even storing apps on my iMac...

It's nice if you have to sync large apps to multiple devices; for example, if you have 3 iPads and 2 iPhones or something. Otherwise, iCloud does store the app data, such as saved games, etc.
