As noted [Google translation] by German site Macerkopf.de and expanded upon by Engadget, Apple has begun activating international iPad App Stores ahead of the device's launch in those countries: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK. Engadget notes that things appear a bit unstable at the moment as Apple works to get everything up and running for the new markets, but should stabilize in time for the official iPad launch later this month.

Apple began taking pre-orders for all iPad models in the nine new countries early last week, with the device scheduled to launch in those countries on May 28th. Recent data from Yahoo showed approximately 10% of iPad users accessing its network of sites coming from outside the United States, suggesting that a significant number of devices have made their way out of the initial launch country.

Interesting that Yahoo keeps that much information about it's users locations and would make it public. Then again, they're nothing like Google.

So, this mean that all the people who have the US iPads currently overseas can now buy apps with their home country iTunes accounts? Perhaps I'm paranoid but it sounds like an easy way for Apple to do some pretty nasty stuff. Then again, they've been working on good PR lately (free iPad and all), so I doubt anything will become of this.

The Netherlands, too?

The screenshots are in Dutch, so the Netherlands (or half of Belgium) should be on the list, too. Strange, as it's not one of the countries where the iPad goes on sale the 28th.

Yeahh right! Nice one Apple!

Spain is right next to PORTUGAL!!

but keep on ignoring us, don't make it available here to...

We've got a small country but commmme onnn!! for good sake! Why do we have to be the last ones to have the products!?

Funny thing is, there is already rubber covers and screen covers (? is this named right lol ?) for purchased...but!!! no iPad

ok..we wait

Canada?

I will be happy if the Canadian app store is open! Am in France right now, but will try it as my iTunes account is Canadian.

lol the screen is in dutch (belgium or the netherlands) and you guys are talking about german :p

Working in the UK

Can confirm that the UK one is working.

Just downloaded some new iPad apps although as stated, some parts don't seem to work sometimes. No top charts sometimes.

I have been buying IPad Apps with my Canadian iTunes account since launch. It simply means we can now access the App store directly from the iPad.

Yup. You could buy iPad apps in the store through iTunes, but you couldn't run the App Store app on the iPad, until Today. So even though you may have a US based iTunes account, you couldn't run that on the iPad either. It simply wouldn't launch (because of my Canadian IP I assume).

Canadian Book Store works too, but it's empty. "Books 1-0 of 0" If I log in with an American account, it works though.

Up in Sweden even though there's still no official date if/when the iPad will come here.
No kidding. And apple.se still has the giant iPad ad all over the front page. It's been that way since the announcement. "En magisk och revolutionerande enhet till ett otroligt pris". Ahh, interesting, let's click to find out what the 'unbelievable price' is. Hmm, product page. No mention. Let's check the Store. Ah yes, there's the iPad, now if I click... uh, that took me to the product page again.

When did they say we were getting it, September?

My US itunes account works in the UK. I can buy on both of them on the computer and only on the US on the iPad. If I put the UK account details in on the iPad, it just returned an error but was fine on the US one.

Is there an iPad only section of the UK app store because I can't find it if there is.
