I'm pretty sure Apple didn't specify the time for the iPad2 until Thursday before launch.

Then you would pretty much be wrong.m they specified the sales time at brick and mortar stores, but didn't release pre-order start time till later.

Your own link, and excerpt.......

Apple today officially announced its iPad 2 U.S. launch plans for tomorrow, including revealing for the first time that online sales will begin at 1:00 AM Pacific Time / 4:00 AM Eastern Time. As previously announced, in-store sales at Apple retail stores and other retail partner stores will begin at 5:00 PM.

And if that's not enough, here is a link from the wayback machine

I stopped by our local WalMart on launch day last year, out of curiosity (I had ordered mine online from Apple). The employees had no idea how many they had or the models. The iPads were kept locked up in the manager's office until the appointed time they could be sold. Then a guy pushed a cart of brown boxes to the display counter and the folks waiting (around seven - I live in a rural area which was hit hard by the economic mess) told the employee the model they wanted. The employee checked the box label and some people got what they were after and some did not.

They did not have a white 32GB 3G because I asked. Most seemed to be the 16 GB black model, WiFi.

WalMart is going to follow the instructions they get from Apple. They refused to sell Harry Potter books before midnight, so no iPads will be released early.

Anyone going to stand outside Walmart tonight and sell fake new iPads? I have already heard some of the scams that are coming. Don't buy any new iPads from someone who says they got what you need. lol
