iPad Pro iPad audio when connected to a external display

Is there a way to mute the audio when connected to an external display? When I have my M1 IPP connected via USBC to either monitor it plays audio notifications even with the volume off. Is there a setting to fix this?

You need to mute your monitor, not the iPad, as the sound comes from the monitor when connected

I didn't think either monitor had integrated speakers.
