I’ve accidentally let my two year old iPad Pro battery go completely flat. I now find that although it still charges OK, when I use the battery discharges at an alarming rate. I’ve been told that because I let the battery go flat it will need replacing. Suggestions please.

That is definitely, absolutely not true. Discharging the battery to 0% won’t kill it (it’s not true 0%, anyway, which would kill a battery).

Battery life depends on a million factors, if you like, you can upload a screenshot of the last 24 hours battery usage screen.

If you're going to an Apple Store or even authorized reseller, they can diagnose the battery for you. For my iPad Pro 2017, for instance, the battery health is still at 88 %. Wouldn't have thought, but thus, a change of battery won't do much.
