I noticed that the power brick for an iPad only consumes 10W, and I started to think about the charge time and battery size.

Like an iPod or iPhone the iPad must be charged through a USB cable/dock connector. I think this will become a bottleneck when charging the iPad. With the relatively small battery in an iPhone this may not be an issue, but with the larger battery in an iPad I think charge times will be significant. Apple doesn't tell the battery specs on the iPhone webpage, but I looked at a replacement battery online, and it only holds ~1/5 as much power as the battery in the iPad.

I wonder how long it will take to charge an iPad. I would not be surprised to hear that it takes 5+ hours to fully charge an iPad.

What if it is 5 times bigger, but charges at the same rate.

With "normal" electronic devices you would just provide a bigger power supply, but the iPad is limited by the specs of USB and the Dock connector.

I usually charge my iPhone before going to sleep and wake up 8 hours later.

Not a big problem for me if it did take 5 hours

Also we will soon find out if it actually lasts 10 hours
