For those of you with a 3 device set-up: iPhone, iPad, Mac device, which Mac computer do you go with: A MacBook XXX or a Mac XXX desktop?
I have moved most of my tasks to my iPad Pro 11, but wish to keep a Mac around for odd jobs and a little more oomph in certain situations.

I recently had a 2019 MacBook Air, but wanted something a little more powerful for my Logic Pro use (looking at you i5 quad core). I also dabble in amateur photography/editing. Most daily tasks are simple enough though: email, web browsing, online courses, Netflix, movies, doc creations, YouTube and viewing notes/PDFs.

Lately, I’ve felt an iPad and laptop is a bit redundant and have considered getting the Mac Mini instead of another MacBook Air or Pro. As mentioned, I can do most things on my iPad. A couple examples: I create songs in GarageBand for iPad and then finish them in Logic X. Just about all emails, notes and Pages creations are done on my iPad except when referencing multiple sources—was easier to whip out the MB Air.

My MacBook was docked to a 24” monitor 90% of the time which lead me to think about an iMac or Mac Mini. I could eliminate having 2 portables and get a kit that‘s much more powerful for ~same price. Apple military discount refurb store has 2020 6-core Mac Mini 512GB, 2019 quad-core iMac 1TB fusion, 2020 quad-core MacBook Air 512GB and 2019 quad-core MacBook Pro 256GB all within $150 of each other. I’m leaning most towards the Mini since I already have a magic keyboard, mouse and monitor. It’s also the least expensive of the bunch. However, I keep thinking that maybe I should stick with a laptop since I can unplug and take it with me if ever needed. Prefer the Pro over the Air for the P3 color gamut and better thermals, but the price of the 2020 refurb air is enticing...less than $1K. All opinions welcomed :)

Yep. iMac and iPad is the winning combo for me. Even more so now that I have an iPad Pro because it does so much and is so powerful. I use Logic Pro X and you just get a lot of more power and performance from the iMac. Starting projects on GarageBand and then finishing them off in Logic Pro X is a great workflow and it’s something I should start doing myself. And you’ll also appreciate the Logic Remote app for the iPad as a versatile controller for Logic.

Mac mini and iPad are what I use. Photo editing mainly. Works a treat. Just started using jump desktop and as I have mentioned in lots of posts recently, it’s rather like having macos as an app.

The iMac and the iPad Pro make a great combo. Maybe even the iMac Pro would be a decent combo...

This is a great idea and makes me want to create a new thread, like post pics of your iPad a setup.
but I do have 3 devices that are Compliments. So my 3 Device Setup is.

#1. iPad Pro 11” With Apple Magic Keyboard.
#2. Samsung Note 10+ with 100GB of tethering data per month. So anywhere it can be a WiFi hotspot for my iPad Pro
#3. 55” LG 4K OLED, connected via Apple Airplay stream all my Movies and 4K HDR movie library wireless when I need to watch a movie.

Seems iMac is the popular desktop of choice. Maybe I’ll hold out until later in the week and see if a refresh happens at WWDC. I like the aesthetic of the Mac Mini because it’s small, I already have peripherals and it comes in space gray. Although, I know I’ll get a bit more graphics power out of an iMac. iMac Pro is SG, but that’s way out of my budget. Appreciate the feedback. :)

Mac Mini plus a great Display will do just fine. I would not buy an iMac, to much all in one. With the Mac Mini you can always swap the mini or the Display itself.

The iPad has matured to the point where it's more than capable of fulfilling any immediate mobile needs. Once I graduated from school my 2013 MacBook Pro was docked permanently as a desktop to an external display. I thought that was wasteful (for the battery) so in 2017 I bought a 27" iMac and have been very happy.

I had never owned a desktop, but I really like have a stationary system with all my peripherals and drives permanently attached and organized out of site. The laptop setup was really messy.
