Actually, there are two main reasons that I didn’t want the engraving.
The first reason was that should I decide to sell the device at some time in the future, it might be harder to do so with a personally engraved device.
The second reason was that I thought that engraving might cause a delay in the order.
It would be ironic if people who chose to engrave their devices end up getting them earlier.

Dang. I thought about engraving, although I really didn’t have anything I wanted to engrave. In the end, I decided against as I thought it might delay shipment!

Just went to Preparing to Ship, ordered an engraved SG 12.9 2TB/Cellular exactly at presale time (maybe a min after, had the cart issues once or twice everyone had it seems). Did Apple Card installments (0% loan? Uh, sure, thanks!). Still says arrives May 21 - May 28 but IME with 11 days to go that ought to get specific pretty quickly.

With Apple it’s a waiting game. You can get a notice 2 days before but you will still have it on the day promised. Their stuff moves amazingly fast once it gets in the air.

It’s normal. Mine is still the same. Ordered in first 5 minutes. 12.9 256gb space grey wi-fi only.
Engraved seems to be the common thread here. Makes sense, they are moving to engrave site so they have to move early.

Or to make sure they have the money before they engrave them. Otherwise they could sell them to someone else.
I don’t think the engraving thing makes sense. Normally engraved products take longer. Had an airtag that got delayed because of an engraving.
Good point. Most likely answer since engraved iPads seem to be the only ones moving
seems like engraving will take the same time to get to people as non-engraved, its just preparing earlier because theres extra time needed to engrave

Hopefully non engraved iPads will move tomorrow or Wednesday.
Out of curiosity I asked if I could add engraving w/o negatively affecting delivery time snd was told no (I could add it but it might delay 2–3 weeks). That’s for one that’s currently scheduled to deliver 6/9–23.
