Not really surprised. I genuinely prefer Android phones these days, which would have shocked most of my friends a few years ago since I used to be the biggest Apple fanboy.
But when it comes to tablets, Android still doesn’t come close to the iPad experience.

I used to think iPadOS was just a bigger version of iOS. Then I got an overpriced Samsung Tab through work. Honestly, it’s terrible.
I also have an Android phone, and the tablet really just feels like a larger phone. Most apps aren’t even optimized for tablets properly.

Having said that, I also use my iPad hardly anymore since I got a Folding phone now.

I bought a Pixel tablet because for the intended use case it absolutely needed separate user accounts, but it's otherwise a very subpar experience. Completely agree that the app landscape is dreadful. It's somewhat mitigated by the fact that I can use Firefox with proper plugins, but I would not recommend an Android tablet to anyone unless they are very clear what they're getting into.

I've never seen an Android tablet in the wild, other than permanently attached to some medical equipment and running a proprietary OS or overlay. I do see Fire tablets when traveling, and I guess, technically, it's an Android tablet...but not really?

Personally, I have never had a use for a tablet other than an iPad 2 (yes, it still works and I won it in a raffle) I have in my workshop to watch streaming MLB. I've bought and sold four iPads..I'd use them for a couple weeks, then they would end up gathering dust for months at a time.
In the EU there are many. Maybe you should travel more?

Of course. iPads are the only way to go.

There’s only two reasons to buy an android tablet. The most common is you want the cheapest possible tablet for a very young child who will destroy it. The second is you have some issue with Apple.

Did I forget one?
Very young kid...Ipad too. Ipad is the golden standard. And I have MANY issues with Apple (but I know I would have more issues with other brands)

I travel quite a bit, just not to Europe. Also, I generally travel to parks and/or off-grid areas for backpacking and hiking. I don't see a lot of people or at least people using much tech.

Or you just want want to use another company’s product
Just because you buy another tablet then it’s quite possible it meets your requirements and not because you have an issue with Apple
Why would you want to purposely use a product that’s inferior unless it was for pricing or disliking Apple? I used a small child as an example for not wanting to spend money, but if you have a budget that’s a reasonable use case as well.

I guess extreme brand loyalty like for some reason you absolutely loved everything with the Samsung logo, but that doesn’t really make sense to me.

Because maybe in certain situations an
Android or harmony OS tablet works well
For your situation
So then it doesn’t make it under powered then or inferior

Specific industry verticals often call for basically single-task, low-power Android tablets. My employer changes suppliers practically on a yearly basis because these things are so disposable. It's truly a race to the bottom.

A third reason is for those who want a tablet that can function both as a mobile device and offer desktop-like functionality/productivity.

A Samsung Galaxy tab w/DeX is a joy to work with for desktop-like functionality and productivity. It is also a very capable mobile tablet. And for my workflows, (unlike using an iPad for productivity), there are none of the hurdles and Rube Goldberg-like workarounds required to perform those basic productivity tasks on the Galaxy Tab.

For a season, I ditched my Macbook Air and iPad and replaced them with a Galaxy tab. It was quite capable to the tasks... except for content creation, which I continued to use my Mac Mini for.

When deep discounts were available for the 10th gen iPad and M1 Macbook Air, I returned to a Macbook/iPad combo. (cost about the same as a fully decked out Galaxy Tab config w/accessories)

Good for Apple. iPads are great devices and last a long time. I would prefer to buy an iPad any day than an Android tablet. Among the Android ones, Samsung makes the best.

You see there’s this thing called “personal preference” and “opinion” where people can enjoy different things from each other. I can tell from your comments here that you find this to be an impossible concept to grasp, or else you wouldn’t be asserting your subjective opinion as objective fact.

The fact you ended your comment by saying extreme brand loyalty doesn’t make sense to you is just delicious by the way 👌

He did mention because you want a cheaper alternative

Only problem is the Apple product is clearly better. You can prefer to wear a pair of Jeans from dollar general, or buy a pair of Levi’s that will last longer. Other than not having the money for a better pair of jeans, unless you don’t like Levi’ (or insert Lee etc) there is no reason to buy your jeans from dollar general

What because someone wouldn’t need an iPad is because of money and not something else?
For there needs like a high end tablet

There are some reasons why people don’t need an iPad maybe they live in china?

Except you’ve jumped into a conversation about Android tablets as a whole, and you’ve immediately jumped to the most extreme budget example in your analogy you’ve attempted to shoehorn in, either you missed the point entirely or you’re being deliberately disingenuous.

If you’re going to compare it would have to be jeans in general of every brand since Android tablets cover every price point from budget to luxury. If you like Levi that’s fine but if you were to claim every single other brand of Jeans are inferior, and that anyone who buys anything other than Levi only did so because of “extreme brand loyalty” you’d be just as wrong.

There’s different and there’s worse. Different is like having a different color or maybe things arranged differently. Of course everyone has to choose what they want to buy, and I’m not against that.

Well, I’m glad you enjoyed that. Maybe you feel differently. I just buy what works best rather than the label on it.

It’s interesting you mentioned that. Yes, people in China right now are being more loyal to Chinese brands and I can respect that. It’s not so much they dislike Apple they want to show loyalty to their country. That is a unique reason and a good one I guess.

I never said that Chinese people dislike Apple what I said was if you lived in china then the alternatives are just as good

The problem with android tablets is most apps on the Google Play store aren’t designed for tablets. Apple pushes app developers to make their apps compatible with iPad. You know the Apple App Store meanie rules lol

I’m not sure about Chinese brands such as Huawei who use alternatives to the Google play store. It would not surprise me if they are doing better than Google in this area.

Huawei aren’t allowed to use google
So they have made their own OS called
Harmony OS and it’s in multiple different products if you take a look at their products you can understand why people buy them
In china.

The iPad lists for $349 but now selling for $299 on Amazon. If one has the iPhone, the iPad (least expensive to most expensive) is the obvious choice.

My sis is visiting me and had me buy her a kindle scribe, I had my eye on the paperweight for reading but she got the scribe for being able to write on ebooks. however it wasn’t color, she wants to return it but in the end she finally figured out how to use it.

All her issues aside, I’ll just stick with my “13 IPad Pro with MKB and pencil pro LOL, as much as I complain, I don’t need another tablet for reading, it’s not the nano screen but it does the job.
I consider the Kindle Scribe to not really be a competitor to the iPad. I own a Scribe and a Paperwhite Signature because I like eink screens for reading books and note taking. I do not feel like they overlap with my iPad Mini or iPad Pro as I only read books on that type of screen if I do not have an ereader to use instead.

Long ago I owned a Samsung Galaxy Tablet, it was a good device, but I prefer iPads. Most of the non Samsung Android tablets that I have played with kind of feel junky and have crummy aspect ratios geared towards watching movies.

Don’t these people know that the iPad needs a filesystem and windowing like macOS and everything else like macOS before it can be a product as good as macOS?

Does this mean that the world doesn’t care all that much about macOS?!

I wonder how many people have an iPhone, have an iPad, picks up a Mac and wonder how it works? :) Then they take it back to the store or sell it? Of all the Macs sold in one day, how many are “I want and prefer macOS” and how many are, “Whatever the thing with the Apple logo comes with.”?
