It looks like it works just wished you didn't have to jump thru so many hoops.

Lol are you the guy who posted the same comment on the engadget article?

The jailbreak has been out for what, 3 days I think?

Give it some time...wait to see whats out there in 6 months. I bet someone will make and app that will work as a File Browser for an external HDD where you dont have to go through hoops to access the data.

Agreed

BTW I just tried it with an SD card and works perfectly. Insert an SD card with movies/documents/whatever, launch iFile (free version is good enough) and navigate to /var/mnt/mount1. It is mounted automatically, no need to start terminal.

Maybe the ability to read USB sticks will come from this. Hopefully some jailbreak app mounts the external media automatically.

USB sticks are getting mounted automatically for me, see my message couple posts above. Same as SD card, just need to use a different adapter from the camera kit.

Really?? Wait, so what is your setup exactly with that?

Same as the poster above except for iPhone 3G (not relevant to this topic) and iPad Wifi 32G - hardlybrelevant either, I bet SD cards and USB flash drives are auto mounted on any iPad.

So are there any apps (Cydia or AppStore) that can play .avi video files from an external usb drive? It sounds like ifile can play some formats, but not .avi?

I've not tried .avi with a thumb drive yet, but it works great with .PDF, .JPG, and word docs. I'll give an .avi a shot later today and see what happens.

iFile does not mount my sd

In tried to go to /var/mount but i don't see anything, even if the iPad connect the sd with pictures through the picture app...

Any ideas?

What about DMG files? The only thing keeping me from completely ditching a laptop on trips is inability to open encrypted DMG files.

USB keys are mounted and show up in ifile for me.

However when I insert an sd card it isn't mounted in ifile, but does show up in the photo app. Am I missing something in order to have the sd card show up in ifile?

The sd card is a patriot 16gb sdhc card.

I tried removing the dcim fold from the sd card. It no longer shows up in the photo app. However when I go to ifile it still isn't mounted.

Question of correct formatting?

I have tried an USB stick with 8 GB and NTFS format over the Camera Connection Kit/USB on my jailbroken iPad and saw also really nothing in iFile under /var/mnt...

Also my other 4 GB USB stick: It was not visible! So I looked arround and found the trick: format it with Fat32 (Windows) or NFS (Mac OSX) and it will appear as /var/mnt/mount1.

The Camera Connection Kit/SD I must try these days, but I think it could be the same reason: format with Fat32 or NFS and the SD card may appear als as /var/mnt/mount1...

And if the /.../mount1 folder is not visible with corecctly formatted and inserted USB stick, switch back to /var and forth again to /var/mnt and it is there magically as /var/mnt/mount1...

I'm having troubles...I keep getting the message that my usb device is not supported. Trying to load a usb stick into the camera connector...any advice?

Ok I figured it out. Just a question, is there anyway to be able to load those docs into pages etc? Just couldn't figure it out. Are you also able to save them onto the ipad instead of the usb?
