Why would they be ridiculed in a public school?

envy leads to anger - anger leads to ridicule - ridicule leads to suffering

but anyways.
the iPad is not the best note taking or paper-writing device, and i don't think the kids are gonna be doing alot of research from scientific publications and the likes.

I hate the people on here acting like kids shouldn't have nice things. I got an iPhone when I was 10, I took very good care of it.

that makes you ... 14 now? :/

anyways. Sure, kids can have nice things. But things like an iPad, being the luxury item it still is, and it being less than optimal for high school work, other kids would take it as the kid bragging.

a high school kid sporting an iPad is nothing perfectly normal. Some kids will envy the iPad owner and whine at their parents (who might not be able to afford multiple iPads or who just think a PC at home will do), some will express their envy in teasing and calling the kid spoilt.

it highly depends on the school the kids are going to, but i do think it's quite risky and the potential benefit (the iPad isn't better than a notepad OR a laptop for schoolwork) doesn't outweigh the risks :/

In Australia iPads are beginning to play an important role in the school curriculum. In my school we use iPads many times a day, in class and during breaks.

Sure, young people can have nice, expensive gadgets. But if these were my own kids, I wouldn't just give it to them, to teach them values. They have to earn it, get their own job to pay for part of it, do very well in school, etc.

However, the question here is not whether young people should be given nice toys or not. It's about whether iPad is a good learning TOOLS for high school students.
