edit: I'll admit, I didn't read any of your rambling post at first. Just saw the title and thought, "Geez, another iPad for college thread???" Little did I know it was worse than that... I read your post, and it could be boiled down into a simple "Wifi or 3G???" thread. Try reading the posts from 1000s of others before just creating a new thread.

I appreciate the effort, but most of the threads discuss using an iPad instead of a MacBook in general. That is not my plan - of course I'll use my MBP to write papers and do job-related stuff. My question is whether the way I'll use my iPad is feasible and if it's fine getting the WiFi-only iPad if I use the MyWi app (i.e. creating a WiFi hotspot) on my iPhone.

For your usage it sounds like the wi-fi version should be enough.

Alright, whatever. I'll go through the 422 threads about using the iPad at college and the 776 threads about MyWi and try to extract the information I need. Thanks guys, I appreciate the effort and the kind words 🙄
