iPad iPad Gen 4 (2012) with cellular: should I destroy the SIM card? Is it carrier locked?

I have my father's old iPad Gen 4. It's a wi-Fi/Cellular model.

It works, but has no Cellular service (and I couldn't swear it was ever set up to use celular...I think he just got the top model because he could).

It has this verizon sim card in it, but I think it's a dummy..maybe?

I'm looking to get rid of this...for whatever i can get..but I don't know if I should destroy this SIM card (like does it have info about a former account on it?) , and do i list it as locked to Verizon or does that concept not matter now?

Sure, if you want to. I don’t see where a SIM would have any value.

Test it with a SIM card on another carrier to see if it's carrier locked.

SIM card may have some contacts and SMS stored on it. If you worried about it, just cut it in half before disposal.

The physical SIM card slot of US iPads are not carrier-locked (at least that generation wasn't). I don't know if those are universal models though so the LTE band support may limit carrier options.
