TOTALLY AGREED! I too quit playing console games around 2003 and switched to some first person shooters for Mac but then the iPad came along and I started playing more games. Its games like Modern Combat and Real Racing that are honestly very close to a console experience in your hands. Plus the games are under 10 bucks.

P.S. I know serious console gamers will laugh at my statements but I find playing a first person shooter on the iPad much easier than using two imprecise analog sticks. And I guarantee a mouse and keyboard is even better. Put a PC gamer up against any console gamer and the PC gamer will blow everyone away.

What first person shooter should this newbie try on the ipad? I need game control with shooting as the highest priority. Any time I tried something, I got killed off so quickly that I pretty much gave up.

I'll put any suggestion on easy mode for starters! :D I would like to shoot zombies btw.

FIFA 13 on my tv through Apple TV using mini as controller for the win.

Does that work well thought? without lag? I've played some games from my ipad 3 to tv before (think real racing etc) but they were always too laggy for me to enjoy

There are plenty of Zombie shooters on the iPad. The hot one out now is Dead Trigger. Also Contract Killer : Zombies and The walking dead. The App store has a dedicated section on zombie games.

However in my opinion the best shooter out right now are Modern Combat 4.

Some other titles to consider:

4 Elements II
Bloons TD 5
Into the Dead
Minigore 2
Mutant Mudds
GTA Vice City
WraithBorne
Orc: Vengence
Trigger Fist
Bike Baron
MineCraft Pocket

Action scenes (like the pre-game scenes) are laggy. Actual gameplay is perfect for me.

Still making my way around that website. It had been recommended to me before but I don't think I ever saw a section for games to try for certain genres if one is a novice. Guess that may be unrealisitic, unless it is there somewhere and I'm just missing it.

Everybody: download The Room. It's $1.99 but well worth the price.

It won Game of the Year. I'm 2 minutes into it and loving it! It's a lot like the game Myst (1993).

Yeah. I don't know how anyone can control an FPS on a console controller. iPad controls are much better - but Keyboard and Mouse is still the best by a mile - not better enough to make me put down my iPad and get off the armchair though.

Dead Space
Modern Combat 3 & 4
N.O.V.A 3

Hey guys, Avengers Initiative is FREE for a limited time! The price of the game costs $6.99 and it's currently free! So hurry up and DL it! It's a lot like Infinity Blade, but Avengers style!

But, what a game! Brilliant everything!

Yeah, it's really cool. Very cute too.

"Happy Street" may be THE most addicting game I have ever played. I love that aesthetically it's similar to "Animal Crossing", which is one of my all time favorite games.

Along with that I've been playing "GTA: Vice City", "Asphalt 7", and "You Don't Know Jack" quite a bit as well.

Joe Danger!

Joe Danger is my new favourite game.

Bought it on the PS3 because, well, it looked like the most fun game, though I never really played it much on the PS3 for some reason, but went ahead (against my better judgment) and bought it for my mini, and I can't stop playing it - they've done supremely well with porting this game to iOS, it is seriously a fun game, I highly recommend checking it out.

Curious to know what others who have the PS3 version think of the iOS version.
