Anyone tried hooking up a Bluetooth iPad keyboard with a trackpad directly (via Bluetooth) to an MBP? If so, does it work, including the trackpad? I like the size and layout.

Are you referring to the iPad Magic Keyboard? Won't work -- it doesn't use bluetooth. It communicates with the iPad via pogo pins on the back of the iPad.

Yeah, the OP should be more specific. A Bluetooth keyboard is a Bluetooth keyboard though. Hook it up to anything you want. The Touch Pad should be the same. I have all sorts of Bluetooth input devices that swap between my MBP, iPad, and sometimes iPhone.

I can confirm it works.
My use case is this:
When I'm working mobile, I bring my MacBook and iPad Pro (with a keyboard case attached) along with a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. The iPad is used either as a 2nd monitor or as a reference screen connected through universal control. If/When my MacBook and iPad are on risers or stands to get a more ergonomic setup is when I use the keyboard and mouse.
In an attempt to shed some weight, I switched from my Logitech combo touch iPad case to a Bluetooth version. I did this so I can just use the iPad keyboard with a trackpad with my MacBook and still be able to use it with my iPad through universal control or sidecar. This way I wouldn't have to carry essentially 2 Bluetooth keyboards.

To clarify, I'm talking about third-party keyboards sold for use with iPads, usually as part of a case. I don't have an iPad, but think the narrow design would be more convenient sometimes, and there's a trackpad.

The keyboard I mentioned using with my macbook is one of those Bluetooth : trackpad keyboard cases made for iPads
A curious followup: I tried an iPad keyboard with my MBP, and it works well, though the trackpad is balkier, and there's no momentum scrolling.
The oddest thing, though, is that the trackpad treats clicks on the right side of the pad as right-clicks/control-clicks. The left side clicks works normally, as do taps to click on any part of the keyboard.
