Idk if its just me, but when i lie in bed, using my iphone i prefer the portrait mode just because its much easier to hold with one hand. (mind you im lying down in my side) So as im on facebook it changes to landscape because im on my side and what not, and i find it really annoying. Wouldnt it be nice if the iphone had settings for this to activate or deactivate when it switched mode. Now i bring this idea to the iPad. I believe i will have the same problems. Is it just me that has this problem or do any of you guys deal with this situation sometimes?

I know what you're talking about. :p I kind of wish there was a switch on the top of the iPhone (or iPad) allowing you to lock the autorotation.

Some apps (such as book readers) have this feature. I'm not sure it's Apple's place to force this on apps, but rather app developers should be including this feature in their apps.

cuz i know when i read an actual book in bed, i only read one page at a time and hate being on the wrong side of the page because i strain my neck and eyes (one page is easier to read on one side than the other) if the ipad is gonna be switching to landscape while im on my side, this will not improve the "reading experience"

This bugs me, too The biggest offender is the Music app on my touch. Lying bed if I hold it so I can actually read the screen while lying down it rotates into the completely useless coverflow screen.

A switch would be nice, but even an universal software based solution would be good. Maybe a setup where holding the sleep button down for a few seconds will lock the current orientation at an OS level?

Jailbroken phones have a toggle for this, would be nice if it were a system-wide setting by default.

I've always struggled with this too. The only time you get a chance to breathe is when you're playing a game with a locked aspect.

I suppose we'll just have to try it and see. My guess is that it's going to be less of a problem than my iPod Touch, given that the iPad is larger and hence I'm going to be less likely to hold it at funny angles.
