Switched from an 11 Pro Max to a 12 Pro this year. I think I am happy with the switch as when I’m out and about I prefer the smaller form factor. Putting in car mount, fitting in pockets, using as an actual phone, etc are all easier.

That being said I miss the big screen for content consumption, money management, browsing safari etc. So this has me contemplating an iPad.

Might be an odd line of questioning but I’m curious how people get on with an iPad day to day. Do you charge it on your nightstand with your phone? Do you leave it in your living room to grab when you want the bigger screen? What types of functions cause you to go grab the iPad rather than just use whatever phone is in your pocket? I won’t use one for work, just don’t want a device that I never actually seek out for everyday uses.

I use ipad quite extensively now, I have one for work and one for home. The home one I just charge overnight and grab it when I come home - leave it next to me on the sofa/coffee table and use as needed. I‘ll also use it in the kitchen e.g. to watch YouTube/TV when I’m cooking, split screen lets me check recipes etc.

I use my ‘work’ ipad to teach and and for usual office/productivity work. Once I’ve finished for the day, i just leave it on charge in my office.

Thanks for sharing!

I think I worry about leaving it on a coffee table or couch because I have 3 young kids. I can keep my phone safe from their destruction in my pocket but not so much with an iPad... or more likely I am just overthinking it.

I can understand that! However, there are a bunch of cheap, high quality cases on Amazon that will protect the iPad.

I have a very protective Logitech keyboard case because I use the iPad to type 50-50% of the time, but that is probably overkill for most people’s needs.

Honestly, I am total convert to the iPad since iOS 13, and I’ve barely touched my MBP in the last 12 months. Great devices.

Maybe you should think about getting a screen protector and a case for it then.

With small children around you either should watch them closely if the iPad is around or store it away when it’s not safe.

Like an iPhone an iPad is really just a bigger interface to work with iOS. For that reason and because of the great pencil functionality these days, the iPad is my main computer at home, everything else gets used less.

When my kids were small they were not allowed to touch, pots, pans, knives and electrical devices. Worked out.

I use my iPad daily. Charge every 2nd or 3rd day.

On the couch for internet, news, catching up on work email. Using right now actually.
For, in a pinch, work. I can VPN into my work machine.
Taking notes when I used to go into office.
Movies on the go.
Reading and scrolling Reddit before I fall asleep in bed. It is actually my most used device.
