I find it odd that there is not a forum subsection for iPad launch meetups. Can we have one? Or does nobody actually care? I'm fine either way.

My wife and I will be at the Apple Store in Leawood, KS somewhere between 8 and 9am. I just called the store and they will be opening at their regular time of 10am that day, so I guess I won't have to wake up super early like I had expected. Is anyone else going to be there? I love Apple launch events. I always get to meet so many nice people. This is also the first time I've waited at an Apple Store! The past three times were at AT&T for the iPhone, so this, combined with a rumor of getting some sort of surprise has me a little more excited than usual.

I think a single thread is fine rather than a subforum :). But anyhow, enjoy your day! It will be spectacular. I'll be waiting for a 3G iPad :)

I made a thread a little early today about reserves in NJ apple stores. This will be the first time I have waited in line for anything on launch day.

as of today we are just under 3 weeks away from the launch, so I still think it might be a little early for planing a meet up. Either way, I'll be at the Vintage Faire Mall Apple Store in Modesto, Ca.

you also have to consider that this time around Apple has done Pre-Orders and Reservations, so people aren't as incline to wait in line for hours like the first iPhone. But even though I have a reservation, I'm actually going out of town later that day so I will be there early in the morning waiting.

I showed up around 7am for the 3GS launch at the Leawood store and was about 200 or so back. After all the cluster registering and such I finally got up to the register around 11:30am. The line had easily doubled behind me, and was a constant line throughout the day. I honestly hope the lines are smaller for the iPad, or at least the "reserve" line will be shorter so we can walk in, pay and go.

Also, these line should move quickly because unlike the iPhone, the iPad doesn't need to be registered for a contract, verified that your the account holder or activate the account.

it should be as simple has giving the iPad, then charging you and then walking out. Lines for the iPhone 3G and 3GS were long because the iTunes Servers kept crashing and accounts couldn't be activated.

Well, perhaps iPad processing will be faster as there really isn't anything to be registered. They just have to pop the box into the bag and you are good to go. As far as Leawood is concerned, I am a little worried about the line. The people in that area near Overland Park in Johnson County have a ton of disposable income and might be buying them by the truckload (or even two at a time, lol). That said, I ordered the 32gb model, so hopefully everyone else maxed out at 64gb or is waiting for the 3g model later in the month. I was thinking around 8:30 but maybe I should lean more towards 8am.

I'm sure Apple is going to have a 1 per customer policy (at least for launch) and if rumors are correct about a shortage, then as long as you reserved your iPad, you should be fine.

the rich don't always get what they want, this is a story from the first iPhone launch.

    Gizmodo
"For anyone who hasn't heard this story, we highly recommend it. A woman buys the front spot in line to purchase $100,000 in iPhones to sell on eBay. The catch? She has no clue about the one per customer limit (at this AT&T store). Still, our favorite moment is when the boy tells the camera "That's a serious package, folks," and he thinks we're laughing WITH him. Well, we sorta are I guess."

and not to get off topic, but heres a video, its too funny.

I'm still deciding between 3G and non-3G but I've reserved an iPad for pickup at the Millenia Mall in Orlando, FL.

Are those of you that are reserving for instore pickup instead of having it shipped doing so because you want to see it in person and make a final purchasing decision at that time. Or do you just want to experience the apple store on the launch day of a new major project. Or both?

    Just curious.

Much more fun getting the product on launch day from the store vs. getting it delivered :)

I'll be at the Fashion Valley store in San Diego.

There's 4 stores on Long Island.

I'm going to swing by Manhasset late in the day to hopefully get to play with one. Not buying until reviews are in.

I want to see one in person first. I also want to see what an Apple store looks like on release day (I think they are a bit creepy on a normal day).

I will be swing by the Roseville, CA store sometime in the morning.

I've reserved my iPad for in-store pickup because I will have to leave home and go to work that Saturday afternoon and don't want to take the chance of missing a FedEx delivery if the truck arrives after I've gone to work.....

I've experienced the Apple store on the occasions of the 2007 iPhone launch, the 2008 iPhone launch and last year's 2009 iPhone launch. It's fun, it's really neat being there at the launch of a new product!

Actually it is two per person: http://www.macrumors.com/2010/03/12/apple-begins-ipad-pre-orders-in-u-s/
Well, I'll be going home from school for Easter break (spring holiday?). I suppose I could have had it delivered to my parent's house, but what is the fun in that? Plus I won't get to play with it over the weekend before class starts back up. In addition, what if the shipment didn't show up on Saturday? My parents would have to then mail it back down to school, meaning I might not even get it until Wednesday at the earliest, which would be too much for me! Plus I've never experienced the insanity first hand. Just AT&T insanity, which can be insane enough, but not as cool.

I plan on having mine shipped to me in Blacksburg, VA... anyone want to join me there? ;)

I'm sad that I don't have an Apple store near me and I have to work later on Saturday so I can't really drive 2+ hours to my nearest Apple Store... but if anyone wants to wait around at my apartment with me until 11:30AM or so on the 3rd, let me know!

I won't get it till after 3pm, and if it's UPS then it's normally after 5pm. I don't have anything planed for that day, so I'd like to pick it up in person.:D
